LA City Section "Championship Bracket":
First Round Boys Matchups--(Feb. 16, 2003)

The LA City Section Seeding Committee met yesterday and they've put together a very strong bracket.  Maybe not the strongest from top to bottom we remember in recent years (2000 and 2001 were stronger top to bottom), but still this should be a very competitive tournament.    The Valley schools will once again be heard to claim they were slighted, and indeed,   only four teams from the Valley (three league champions who get automatic entry)  and one second place team made it, which is pretty much par for the course the past few years, and in our humble opinion, given the strength of the Metro area, four teams is not all bad.   In the Metro area, four teams from one league, the Western League, made the top bracket (Westchester, Fairfax, Uni and Pali) and three from the Coliseum League (Dorsey, Crenshaw, and Fremont).  See what we mean?     And besides, everyone knows that it's going to come down to just two, possibly three of the top Metro area teams anyway, right?  Look for the semifinal between Carson and Fairfax to be a war....In the other half, while Crenshaw got the seed at No. 3, we like the "hidden seed" Taft to make it to the semis against Westchester.....Time will tell....

The first round should be next Friday, February 21.  We say "should" because the City Section, in it's infinite wisdom, hasn't issued any press releases this year, and they also haven't updated their website with the bracket info or game dates, so we're extrapolating based on last year's brackets.....We do know for sure that games will all be played @ 7:30 p.m. and the host will be the higher seeded team.
