CIF-SS Boys Division III-A Bracket:
First Round Results--(Feb. 20, 2003)

Here are the results from last night, in bracket order, followed by the updated graphical bracket:

Estancia 61, Gabrielino 36 --Joey Lindquist had 24 points and Carlos Pinto added 16 for Estancia (17-10) and Joe Lim had 11 points for host Gabrielino (14-12).

Ganesha 60, Corona del Mar 57--Ganesha trailed, 48-43, at the end of the third quarter but rallied to out-score the Sea Kings, 16-9, in the final eight minutes. Antonio Taylor scored 14 points for Ganesha (16-12).

Banning 76, Gladstone 34 --Brandon McDade had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Banning (26-2) over Gladstone (9-16). Matt Smith of Banning made five 3-pointer for his 15 points.

Chaminade 78, Bolsa Grande 47--Adrian Aye-Darko scored 17 points to lead Chaminade (17-10). Bosa Grande is 14-13.

Cathedral 71, Morro Bay 63-- details not available.

Harvard-Westlake 81, Duarte 46 --Bryce Taylor scored 25 points to lead host Harvard Westlake (22-6) over Duarte (12-12). Evan Harris added 18 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks for the Wolverines.

Lompoc Cabrillo 58, Muir 56--Geoff West hit a 3-pointer with 40 seconds left to tie the game, and Isaac Simmons made two free throws with 17 seconds left to give Lompoc Cabrillo the win.  Simmons' final points were set up by an Alvin Gordon steal off an entry pass. Long Beach Cabrillo (18-6) trailed by six points with three minutes left until four defensive stops switched the momentum. West led Cabrillo with 18 points and Kori Summers had 11 points. Simmons finished with eight points. Kris Riggins of Muir (15-13) scored 20 points and Gerrel Finney added 12 points.

Oak Park 65, Northview 48--Senior guard Pete Winningham scored 25 points to lead host Oak Park (20-6) over Northview (12-14). Junior forward Ryan Klein added 19 points and eight rebounds for Oak Park, and senior guard Kyle Daley added 10 points and six assists. Oak Park led 26-17 at halftime.

Bishop Amat 62, Marshall Fundamental 60 (OT)--Paul Porter had 29 points, including four straight free throws in overtime clinch the victory for host Bishop Amat (15-11). Juan Canas added 18 points and Cesar Rodriguez netted 12 points for the Lancers. With 7 seconds remaining in regulation, Canas stole the ball and fed Rodriguez on the fast break who, converted the layup as time expired to force overtime. Freshman Jamil Tucker scored 19 points to lead Marshall (16-9).

San Dimas 64, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 53 --Mike Flores scored 22 points to lead San Dimas. Danny Calin had 12 points and Orlando Baeza added 11 points to lead Notre Dame (10-16).

Workman 70, South Pasadena 56--details not available.

The four "seeded" teams in the bracket were not much of a surprise:  No. 1 Bishop Montgomery,  No. 2 Ocean View,  No. 3 Harvard-Westlake, No. 4 La Canada. Here's the bracket (host teams are listed second):

All games with the exception of the final round will start at 7:30 p.m. unless another time is mutually agreed upon and clearance is received from the CIF-SS Office.  Public coin flips will be held in the lobby of the CIF-SS Office at 9:00 a.m. the day following each playoff game [these coin flips will determine subsquent sites after the first round, i.e., which school will be the host].  Coin flips will be available after 9:30 a.m. and we'll try to keep everyone posted with them here.
