CIF-SS Boys Division III-A Bracket:
Semifinals Tonight--(Feb. 28, 2003)
This is a 32-team bracket, so why are the other divisions with the same number of teams only in the quarterfinal round? Because Division III-AA is only a 16-team bracket, and in order to coordinate the finals, Division III-A played the first round a few days earlier than most other brackets... In any event, here is the updated bracket, with scores from the second round from last Friday and the quarterfinals from Tuesday with game details where we've been able to quickly and easily locate them (mostly from the LA Times, but we've filled in other games they didn't cover with details from other local papers).... Here's what the bracket looks like now:

All games with the exception of the final round will start at 7:30 p.m. unless another time is mutually agreed upon and clearance is received from the CIF-SS Office. Public coin flips will be held in the lobby of the CIF-SS Office at 9:00 a.m. the day following each playoff game [these coin flips will determine subsquent sites after the first round, i.e., which school will be the host]. Coin flips will be available after 9:30 a.m. and we'll try to keep everyone posted with them here.
Second Round Games--Played Friday, February 21 (Listed in Bracket Order):
Bishop Montgomery 73, Estancia 37 --Brandon Peace scored 23 points and Fred Washington added 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Bishop Montgomery (26-1) over Estancia (17-11).
Banning 72, Ganesha 68 --
Compton Centennial 46, Chaminade 44 --Down by 15 points after the first quarter, Centenial rallied behind Arron Afflalo's 19 points. Dion Cook had a chance to tie the score with two seconds remaining, but his shot from the key missed. Chaminade (17-11) was held to just 12 points in the second and third quarters by Centennial (16-8). Marcus Everett led Chaminade with 10 points.
La Canada 74, Cathedral 57 --Billy Hofman scored 25 while getting eight assists and teammate Andrew Scott threw in 15 points to lead host La Canada (22-5) over Cathedral 20-5.
Harvard-Westlake 84, Lompoc Cabrillo 42 --Bryce Taylor scored 22 points to lead host Harvard-Westlake (23-6) over Cabrillo (18-7).
Northwood 51, Oak Park 48--
Bishop Amat 70, San Dimas 58 --Paul Porter had 20 points to lead host Bishop Amat
(16-11). Mike Flores scored 13 points to pace San Dimas.
Ocean View 59, Workman 31 --Matt Sargeant had 17 points and five assists for Ocean
View (26-3), while teammate Bear Warts added 12 points and 16 rebounds. Ocean View held
visiting Workman (20-5) to just eight points in the second half.
Quarterfinal Games--Played Tuesday, February 25 (Listed in Bracket Order):
Banning 81, Bishop Montgomery 76 --Brandon McDade
had 19 points and Muadeebe Abdul-Aziz added 17 for host Banning (28-2), which led 58-46
after three quarters. Fred Washington had 24 points for top-seeded Bishop Montgomery.
Compton Centennial 74, La Canada 71 (OT) --Aaron Afflalo scored four of his
game-high 37 points in overtime and Ronnie Green hit a three-pointer with 30 seconds to
play in regulation to tie the score, 62-62, for Centennial (17-9), which trailed 55-44
with 4:40 left. Billy Hofman scored 28 points for La Canada (22-6).
Harvard-Westlake 92, Northwood 52 --Bryce Taylor had 26 points and nine rebounds
for Harvard-Westlake (24-6), which outscored Northwood, 30-8, in the third quarter.
Ocean View 68, Bishop Amat 44 --Matt Sargeant had 20 points, seven rebounds and
five assists to lead second-seeded Ocean View (27-3). Bishop Amat ends the season 16-12.
