CIF-SS Boys Division V-AA Bracket:
First Round Results--(Feb. 20, 2003)

There were a number of "byes" in the first round for those teams who entered the bracket as league champions.  There were also a number of games which took place among those who did not take their leagues in regular season play, including the No. 1 seed and defending champion, Rolling Hills Prep, which has an easy game against Glendale Academy.  Here are the results, in bracket order, followed by the updated bracket:

Rolling Hills Prep 110, Glendale Academy 54--Curtis Allen posted 29 points and 11 rebounds, as host Rolling Hills Prep (17-9) won in the first round. D.J. Wright added 25 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Jason Daley had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Huskies.

Linfield Christian 73, Whitewater 47-- Linfield (10-12) overcame several players who were sick this week with the flu to defeat visiting Whitewater, 73-47, picking up the school's first playoff win in 20 years. They will face Rolling Hills Prep, last year's Section Champion in the next round. Linfield guard Chuck Wilson scored a game high 23 points and four assists, three rebounds. Whitewater (16-5) was led by Ryan Forster's 22 rebounds. Brendan Lindsey scored 15 points for the Lions and   12 boards. Ruben Rodriguez added 15 points and nine rebounds while Justin LoFranco added 10 points and nine rebounds.  Linfield Christian led 35-24 at halftime and outscored Whitewater by a 25-8 margin in the fourth quarter.

Hesperia Christian 91, Academy for Academic Excellence 61--Aja Ajanwachuku had 30 points and four steals to lead host Hesperia Christian (18-7) over Academy for Academic Excellence (15-8). Hesperia Christian's Josh Hamilton added 25 points and four steals.

New Roads 68, LA Lutheran 44 --Chris Cannon scored 14 points to lead New Roads. Corey Brocamp scored 13 points for LA Lutheran (12-11).

Riverside Christian 66, Joshua Springs 44 --Ray Manning had 20 points for host Riverside Christian (17-5), which led 27-25 at halftime and outscored Joshua Springs 24-5 in the third quarter. Riverside Christian will meet Buckley in Sherman Oaks on Friday.

Pacific Hills 46, Pilibos 26 --Frank Henry-Ala had 11 points for host Pacific Hills (15-12).

Holy Martyrs 53, Santa Clarita Christian 44 --Hagop Darakjian scored 21 points to lead Holy Martyrs (16-8) over host Santa Clarita Christian (9-16). Hagop Karagoulian added 17 points for Holy Martyrs. The game was tied at 21 at halftime, but Holy Martyrs led 38-31 after three quarters.

Upland Christian 67, Newbury Park Adventist Academy 38 -- Nick Roberts had 18 points for Upland Christian (17-7), which led 35-17 at halftime. Sergio Gonzales had 10 points for host Adventist Academy.

Thacher 61, Masada 48--Brenton Sullivan lead all scorers with 21 points for Thatcher (6-10) Johnny Moore scored 19 points, but Masada (14-7) lost at home in the first-round to Thacher (6-10).

All games with the exception of the final round will start at 7:30 p.m. unless another time is mutually agreed upon and clearance is received from the CIF-SS Office.  Public coin flips will be held in the lobby of the CIF-SS Office at 9:00 a.m. the day following each playoff game [these coin flips will determine subsquent sites after the first round, i.e., which school will be the host].  Coin flips will be available after 9:30 a.m. and we'll try to keep everyone posted with them here.
