So, here we are, and it's finals time again. Division IV-AA will see 9-time CIF-SS Champions Crossroads, with two state championships (1987 and 1997) under its belt, taking on Oaks Christian, which is only in the second year of varsity competition following the opening of the new school in Westlake Village just three years ago. Crossroads is 17-14 overall, and for the first time came in as an unseeded team, while No. 3 seed Oaks Christian is 22-4 and is doing just about what everyone has been predicting for the Lions this season, i.e., making it to the finals and proving that its not impossible to build a championship caliber team from the ground up in a short time.

Crossroads got here by beating Murphy, Brentwood, Twentynine Palms and Ontario Chrisitian, and as noted in today's LA Times, Crossroads actually got a bit lucky when Murphy knocked off Orange Lutheran, which might have presented a bigger problem for the Roadrunners if they'd had to face them in the semifinals this week. Crossroads is led by Robert Locke, a transfer from Campbell Hall (which coincidentally is also in the finals today in Division IV-A against Verbum Dei), who is averaging 21.5 ppg in the playoffs. Other key players are Mithcel Yoshitake (6'-0" So. G), Norman Nixon (5'-11" So. G)(, Brandon Browning (6'-3" Jr. F), Steven Ojo (6'-5" So. F) and Nick Wong (6'-1" Sr. G). No. 3 Oaks Christian is led by Mike Hornbuckle (6'-2" Jr. G), who is shooting the lights out lately, hitting six threes and finishing with 39 points against St. Joe's from Santa Maria in this week's semifinal game.
