If it's June, then it must be time for the annual Palm Springs HS Boys' Summer Series of tournaments. Each year, Sy Lenes and Randy Small, the head coach at Palm Springs HS put on a series of tournaments throughout the summer, for both boys and girls high school teams, usually alternating weekends. The first tournament for the boys is usually just a tune-up for the more competitive rounds which will follow later during the month of July, but even so, there are some pretty good teams in this first session. The first boys tournament will get started this Friday, June 20 at Palm Springs HS. There are 17 teams, which is a pretty oddball number for a tournament, but with pool play, everyone will get a minimum of three games in pool play and at least one playoff game, possibly more. At least this year the tournament isn't featuring byes in the first rounds, and has reverted to a true pool play formula. All games will be played on the two courts side-by-side located at PSHS.
