"Shoe Camps."  National-Level.  Big-time competition.  Invitation-only. Elite Prospects.  High-Major players.

There are any number of adjectives used to describe the nation's two most competitive summer basketball camps.  Whatever names you use, there is no doubt that the competition at these camps is first-rate, and the college coaches from literally every Division I school in the country will be out in force at both throughout this week.

Nike's All-American Camp (which actually has it's own website) in Indianapolis has been going now for two days, whereas adidas' ABCD Camp (which does not have a website, something we really don't quite understand, since they keep great stats and such) just really got started with competitive games this afternoon.   So, everyone is playing, and the coaches are all over the gyms, and the madness has begun.

We've got some "spies" and sources located at both camps who are feeding us as much information as we can get our hands on, and hopefully we'll have some reports and stats from both camps posted later today or tomorrow.   But since we're not there personally, we can't make any promises.   The one thing we can do is give you the names of the California guys who are attending both of these prestigious camps.  As far as how they are all doing and how they are playing thus far, well, there are plenty of sites around that are covering these camps, including ESPN, The Sporting News, RivalsHoops.com, TheInsiders.com (which now features both Dave Telep's "BlueChipHoops" and "PrepWestHoops.com" which have merged together),  Hoopmasters.com (subscription only, but it's where Van Coleman and Bob Gibbons now hang out together), and PrepStarsRecruiting.com, as well as many, many other specialized local sites covering one camp or the other (GoAZCats.com has some really good coverage, among the localized sites).  So, there are plenty of places you'll be able to get your daily fix of news regarding these two camps even if we never printed another word.....( For more sites, check our "Recruiting" links pages).

This year ABCD still has,  by far, the largest California contingent it's had in a long time, 29 players in all, which is all the more surprising because this year Chris Grier and Sonny Vacarro decided to trim the number of attendees, slashing 30 spots, so that ABCD is down to 200, down from its usual high of around 230 or so campers which has been the norm for about the last 6 years or so.    Nike Camp, on the other hand, has remained relatively stable each year with around 200 players, and this year is no exception, but what is surprising is that the numbers of California players is way, way down, just 13 players this year.   So, altogether just 42 players from California are playing at these two   "national" level shoe camps. Here are the lists of attendees:
