Who:   200+ high school-aged college prospects

The second of the all-star games tonight at the Fullcourt Press camp was denominated the "Top 54 Game."   Again, as with the first game, most of the guys who were listed as participants on the roster sheet we received actually participated in the game, and this game featured quite a few really good young players, some of whom we've seen many times, and some we'd never really had the chance to watch for any extended period of time.  Several players we expected to see weren't there (like JayDee Luster, the 5'-9" freshman guard who will be playing at Hoover in San Diego this coming season, or Taylor King, the 6'-6" incoming freshman who will be at Mater Dei.  Still, there was plenty to see in this game, including incoming freshman Jesse Woodard who will be at Compton Centennial, or Jerhaughn Johnson, a 6'-6" So. F from Compton Centennial....come to think of it, the Apaches will be very good again this year, and we're predicting that it will come down to a battle between them and Harvard-Westlake if they wind up in the same division....but we digress.  The guy who stole the show in this game was DeAndre Robinson, a 6'-5" Sr. G/F from Riverside King, who not only can play, he has grades, and is being chased heavily by several Ivy League schools (Yale, Cornell and Princeton, not to mention Stanford and many mid-majors as well).  DeAndre has excellent grades, has an excellent test score (we won't reveal numbers publicly, but suffice it to say, there are a lot of school who would love nothing better than to have him commit now rather than later, because he's only drawing more and more interest from a number of top scholarship schools.  DeAndre had about 5 three-pointers, passed the ball unselfishly, and also got up and dunked it with authority several times, including one thunderous dunk late in the game which got everyone's attention, and even woke a few of us up who were sitting over on the sidelines among the assembled media and college coaches.

Anyway, here is the full list of participants for the Top 54 Game at Fullcourt Press' All-West Camp (note: We've put asterisks next to the names of the guys who we definitely know were in attendance and who played).

There were a couple of guys wearing Arizona Magic travel team jerseys, but their numbers didn't match up with the roster list, and frankly, we haven't' seen them before so we don't know who they were, which is a shame because they were among the better players in this game....Oh well...We want to extend our congratulations to those selected to play in the game.  Good luck in your recruiting, and with the rest of the summer.....See you around the gym sometime.
