We really don't have a clue as to who came up with the title for this game, or what it's really supposed to mean. Is it designed to showcase the guys who were "next best" in their respective classes? "Next" at being "best"? "Best" at being "next" or is it really the "100% Game" with a new name? We're not exactly sure, but it was actually a pretty good group of guys. And again, they got the chance to showcase their skills in front of close to 70 college coaches, which is reason enough to be happy about being in this game, because you just never know who's watching when you play.
Like the other West Coast All-Star camp games, the list of players was selected by the five of the camp coaches, acting as an all-star committee; the group this year consisted only of college coaches (two from east coast D-II's) and high school coaches who worked the camp, which was the process used last year as well. Scouts in attendance had some minor input, but it was--trust us on this one-- really minor.
Here's the list of players who participated in the Best of the Next All-Star Game:

Some of our favorites from this game included Rick Cardoso, Colin Matteson, and Jesse Lopez-Low. Tray Duty was solid as well, and was the only local guy picked for this game. Again, congratulations to the kids who were selected to the all-star game. We look forward to seeing you progress and wish everyone a lot of success through the rest of the summer.
