California Hoop Challenge
Saturday At Cal State Dominguez Hills--(Jan. 6, 2004)

hoopchallenge04150.gif (9215 bytes)Looking forward to a great weekend of basketball?  Did you all enjoy last weekend's Annual Dream Classic?  Good.  There's more action this weekend, this time at Cal State Dominguez Hills in the form of the Reebok California Hoops Challenge.   Here's the schedule of games:

Saturday, January 10, 2004 @ Cal State Dominguez Hills
1000 East Victoria Street, Carson, CA

For info call: (213) 792-4461

1:30 p.m.   LA Price vs. Reseda Cleveland
3:00 p.m. Torranc Bishop Montgomery vs. Fresno Washington Union
4:30 p.m. Compton Centennial vs. LA Crenshaw
6:00 p.m. Compton Dominguez vs. Long Beach Poly
7:30 p.m. LA Fairfax vs. Oceanside El Camino

This is about as good a local lineup of teams across intersectional lines as we've seen anywhere this season.  Price features Schulyer McKay and Darren Morrison, while Cleveland has USC-bound Nick Young and Jason Hill.   Bishop Montgomery features Austin Autry and Ryan Howard, while D-III perennial favorite Washington Union is always tough and this year features Travon Willis and Dwight O'Neil.   Compton Centennial is loaded, with UCLA-bound Aaron Afflaflo, Jervaughn Johnson, Chris Berry and freshman point guard sensation Jessie Woodard, and they will face a revitalized Crenshaw squad led by point guard Brian McTear and big man Sone Finister.  Dominguez features Bryan Harvey and Michael Boyd (it remains to be seen if Lamar Roberson will play or will still be held to be ineligible), and the Dons will face a Poly squad with Kansas State-signee Curtis Allen, Portland-bound Marcus Leiws and Chris Fields.  Finally, in the nightcap, nationally-ranked Fairfax featuring another UCLA signee in Josh Shipp and his "little" brother Jaron Ship along with top 100 player Jamal Boykins will face a team that some say may be among the top two or three teams in the state this season, Oceanside El Camino featuring Gyno Pomare, Craig Austin and Justin Armstrong.

That's as much as we know.  As always, we'll see you there.
