We're a bit late getting the word out about this clinic, but better late than never we say, especially when it comes to bringing you news about a top-notch coaching clinic, one that will bring together Hall of Fame coach Pete Newell, with the others like the fascinating and always entertaining Bobby Knight, former Indiana head coach and current head coach at Texas Tech,  UCLA first year head coach Ben Howland,  St. Mary's head coach Randy Bennet, and Pittsburgh's first year head coach Jamie Dixon, whose team has advanced to this year's NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16."

The clinic is sponsored by adidas and was organized by Networkx, and will take place beginning Friday, April 30, 2004,  and will run through the next day, Saturday May 1.   The venue will be the El Dorado Hotel & Casino in Reno, Nevada.  The clinic will feature strategy sessions, coaching techniques, philosophy, motivational insights,  i.e., precisely what you'd expect from a group of coaches as accomplished as these.  Additional speakers will also be presented, the details of which are a bit fuzzy right now, but we would not be surprised to see a few more big-time college coaches and even a couple of NBA guys lined up before the final roster of speakers is set.  Among the potential list of additional speakers are the following (pending confirmation):  George Karl  (TNT and ESPN),   Pat Knight (Texas Tech),  Buzz Peterson (Univ. of Tennessee),  Mike Brey   ( Notre Dame), Bob Burton (Cal State Fullerton), Leonard Perry  (Idaho),   Rob Evans (Arizona State University),  Rick Stansbury (Mississippi State University), and Stan Heath (Arkansas)

We've attended similar clinics in the past,  and we'd highly recommend this one to anyone who is at all interested in coaching, at any level, whether at the youth level, club or travel teams,  and certainly to high school coaches,  as well as those interested in coaching at the college level and beyond.    But whether you're a coach, or just a fan or student of the game interested in gaining a better understanding about what some of the top coaches have done and are currently doing, you'll be entertained and educated and it will be time well-spent.

Pre-event online registration (secure) for the event is available at this link through Networxbasketball.com.   The cost is relatively inexpensive for an event of its type:  Just $90.00 per person if you register before April 15, and group rates of only $80.00 per person for groups of 4 or more are also being offered.   If you prefer to register by check, mail your registration to  "Networx Basketball,  12893 Ternberry Court, Tustin, CA 92782."

In terms of travel, Reno is easy to get to, about as easy as it gets from Southern California: Southwest has regular flights, virtually every hour of the day from LAX, Burbank, San Diego, Orange County and Ontario airports, and if you book a flight now, you can travel round trip very inexpensively.   You can get more information on hotel rooms and travel by visiting Networkx at this link.

See you there...
