When we got the call from our friend Dan Shell asking that we spread the word about this summer's St. Mary's College team camps, we were only too happy to help.  Of course, that was about a month ago, but better late than never, and there are still openings at these sessions, each of which will feature 48 teams from all over the West Coast, including many teams from Southern California who will make the short drive up the coast to the Bay Area for the sessions on the beautiful St. Mary's campus in Moraga.

The camps are scheduled for the weekends of June 11-13, July 2-4, and July 23-25, and are designed for boys' high school teams, including jv, frosh and soph teams.  If you're a high school coach and looking to get your kids some excellent competition in a college setting, with on-campus housing, and access to college weight training facilities, skill development sessions, use of a pool and game rooms, and a generally great way to bond during the summer months, as well as getting in a little travel at a relatively inexpensive price, then these camps are just what you've been looking for.  Add a short sight-seeing trip to some of the great attractions in the San Francisco Bay Area, and you've got a terrific summer basketball experience for your teams.

Each team is guaranteed a minimum of 6 games, beginning each Friday.  Competition will include at least five pool play games and a single-elimination tournament on Sunday.  Each game will be officiated by high school and college officials (who will also be working themselves as part of an officiating camp).

Camp fees are $500 per team, and if a school brings multiple teams they will receive a $100 discount. An additional fee for housing and meals (per player) will also be charged, but it will be quite reasonable (call Coach Shell for additional information on fees and registration).   For parents and other visitors accompanying a team, there are several excellent hotels nearby, and St. Mary's has worked a deal at the Concord Hilton (approximately 15 minutes from the campus).    Team dinners will be offered on Friday night, three meals on Saturday and breakfast Sunday on campus.

For additional information and registration for your team, call Assistant Coach Dan Shell at 925-631-4714 or e-mail him by clicking the link above.
