(Games Through 1/20/01)

Verbum Dei Record: 14-4, 3-0; lost to Price on Wednesday, but beat Mary Star on Friday.  Still the deepest team in the division, and they will be the team to beat.  Richard Cheney continues as the offensive leader with Mike Lay at the point. Next Up: Hosting Don Bosco 1/24.
Calvary Chap. (D) Record: 17-3, 3-0.  Might lose the No. 1 SCIBCA-poll ranking with a key loss on Saturday to Chadwick by 15 points. Tim Drisdom (6'-4" Jr. PG)  leads. Team may not be as invincible as once thought by many. Next Up: @Capo Valley Christian 1/26.
Buckley Record:  14-1, 5-0.  The Griffins beat Holy Martyrs on Wednesday 67-29, Viewpoint Saturday 99-42. Colin Ward-Henninger (6'-4" Sr. F/G) and David Gale (6'-1" Jr. PG) lead along with Royal Weaver (5'-11" Sr. G) and Alex Clancy (6'-0" Sr. G).  Next Up: Yeshiva 1/23 at Buckley.

Chadwick Record: 11-6.  Just knocked off CC Downey the No. 1 ranked team in the SCIBCA poll (No. 2 in the SoCalHoops Poll) with a convincing win. Seniors Mike Reich (6'-5" Sr. SG/SF)  and Peter McCaslin (6'-0" Sr. G) are the two to watch right now. Host Crossroads 1/27.
Pacific Hills Record: 11-7, 2-2.  Lost to Montclair Prep this week, but beat Whitney. Team keeps its No. 5 spot in the SoCalHoops poll for now.  Amani Daanish (6'-7" Sr. F) is their senior leader. Up Next: Hosting Crossroads 1/26.

Western Chr.

Record: 16-5, 4-1.  Moving up from the No. 9 slot, Brad Meister (6'-7" Sr. F) and Shawn Lokar (6'-4" Sr. G/F) have been much of the offense and the team continues to win. Next: Hosting Loma Linda Academy on 1/23, showdown with ACA on 1/26.
Serra Record: 12-7, 2-1.  Beat St. Bernard on Wednesday; idle now until the 26th. We had the Cavaliers at No. 3 but they've had some key losses lately, including to St. Paul. The big question is overall depth. Up Next: Hosting Bishop Amat 1/26.
Desert Desert is led by Sidney Melvin (6'-4" Sr. SG/SF) who has excellent hops If you can't get news from the high desert, better go see them if you're going to play them or wait until the playoffs to scout them. Up Next: Hosting Frazier Mountain 1/25.
T Arrowhead Chr. Record: 15-4, 6-0.  Beat CC Murrieta Valley Friday night.  Adam Dohner leads the team.   A very good team but whether they have the depth to contend with teams like Verbum Dei and CC Downey is an open question. Up Next: Hosting Western Christian 1/26.
T Yeshiva Record: 12-4, 5-2: Lost a key league game last night to Div. IV-A Providence. Coach Ed Gelb's YULA Panthers have All-CIF guard Abey Malkin (6'-0" Sr. G) and senior Kenny Pollack providing the core nucleus of the offense. Next: At Buckley 1/23.
Ontario Chr. Record: 14-4, 3-2.  Ontario has had some decent wins lately, but the Christian league is very crowded at the top this year and it's likely to come down to a battle between Western and ACA with OC at third.  Next: Hosting Loma Linda Acad. on 1/26.
Bell Jeff Record: 11-7, 1-2. Bell-Jeff Guards moves up. Casey Markovic (6'-5" Sr. SG) has been providing the key offensive punch and while they've lost some to higher enrollment division league opponents, they will still be a tough team during the playoffs.  Next: Hosting St. Genevieve 1/24.
Ribet Record: 12-2, 4-0.  The Fighting Frogs are led by freshman Thomas Woods, sophomore Yancy Clark and Shomar Thomas. Ribet will likely take their league again this year and could be a force in the D-VAA playoffs.
Oakwood Record: 12-2, 6-1 Nick Mark (6'-8" Sr. F/C) and point guard Eric Noble continue to provide most of the offense now that Stan Musgrave has gone down with an injury. Next: @ Holy Martyrs 1/26.
Bloomington Chr Record: 14-1, 4-1.  The Ravens are likely to take the Victory League behind Mike Martin's and Aaron Rollings' play. How far they can go is unknown.  Next: @ Mesa Grande 1/23.
Flintridge Prep

Record: 9-9, 3-1 Senior starters are Antonio Harrison, and newcomer Dwight Phelps are the primary sparks right now.  Beat Pasadena Poly last night. Next: Hosting Southwestern Academy on 1/23.

Rolling Hills Prep Record: 9-4, 6-0;  beat La Verne Lutheran last night. The Huskies will likely win the Express League. Curtis Allen, Jason Daley, and Alex Elliot (6'-7" Jr. F/C)  are the keys to offensive and defensive performance. Next: @ Liberty Christian on 1/23.
Montclair Prep Record: 8-11, 3-2.  Moved up from No. 19 with a big win over Pacific Hills. Lost on Friday to Brentwood which kept them from moving higher.  Puzzling team. Derek Daniels (6'-7" Jr. PF) and Eric Kaufman (6'-0" Sr. G) are the offensive mainstays. Next: @ Campbell Hall 1/26.
T Holy Martyrs Record: 9-6, 3-3 The Armens are plagued by injuries.  If they can get healthy before the end of the season they could return to be a threat. Three key players out right now with injuries. Next: Hosting Oakwood 1/26.
T Woodcrest Chr. Record: 9-6, 2-3.  A bubble team right now. Who knows. . . could go either way. Will likely take third behind Western Christian and ACA in the crowded Christian League Next: @ Calvary Chapel Murrieta Valley 1/23.
T Campbell Hall Record: 7-9, 1-3 Led by Derrick Williams (6'-3" So. F/G), Devaughn Nixon (6'-1" Sr. G), and Robert Locke (6'-0" So. PG) this young team may have a tough time in league but will be a playoff contender. Next: Hosting Montclair Prep 1/26.
T St. Anthony Record 7-12, 2-2.   The defending Southern Section V-AA Champions have been struggling in preseason and in league. Beat Cantwell on Friday. Jay Arizabal (6'-4" Sr. F) continues to be the main offensive threat. Next: Hosting St. Monica 1/24.
T GH Hillcrest Chr. We have no idea whether this team is for real or not, but they are beating up on a lot of smaller enrollment division teams by some impressive scores. From what we've heard, they've got some players too. Ranked more out of curiosity than anything.
T Pilibos 13-2.  Another team we don't know much aboiut but they are likely to take their league.
