SoCalHoops HS Top 15
Division V-A--(Jan. 7, 2001)
Southern Section D-VA Top 20 as of Jan 7, 2001
This is one division where it's really way too hard to even discuss the teams, and there are frankly too many small teams for us to even be able to see half of them during the year. So rather than offer commentary or a full list of 20, we're only going to go with a Top 15, and then we'll eliminate most of the rationalizaitons. Hey, most people only want to glace at a number, and really don't care what we think anyway, and in fact, when you get past #11, we don't have anything to add right now anyway. Perhaps when we get some additional time we'll have something more cogent. Here are the rankings for the top 15 in this division:
1 | Price | Really no doubt about this one. Defending Southern Section and State Champions. Not as deep as last year, but they're still the best in this half of D-V in Southern Section.
2 | Stoneridge Prep | They've got height, and they've got some good guard play, and really from what we've seen, they are probably the second most talented team, but the only drawback is that they are not very deep, with only 7 or 8 players on the roster, which means foul trouble or injury could hurt. James Williams is very athletic, but needs to keep his focus.
3 | Tarbut V' Torah | Noam Dashti and Geoff Keith are the two big scorers. They are winning, and there are not many small schools who can challenge them in Orange County.
4 | North County Christian | Not tremendously talented, but they are a contender.
5 | Antelope Valley Christian | Jamal Flanagan and several others give this team a shot.
6 | Orangewoood Academy | We don't know much about them, but they are one of the better teams in the division.
7 | Hesperia Christian | Well coached, excellent shooters, and some guys who can run the floor. Did well at the Santa Maria VCA tournament.
8 | Rio Hondo Prep | They have their own website (just check the link in "High Schools" in the Prep League. Have not played as well as some of their fans think they should, but once you get past the top 5 in this division, it's pretty much a crap shoot.
9 | Bloomington Christian |
Currently 10-1, and also a Victory League contender.
10 | Desert Christian--Bermuda Dunes | Andrew Brattrud has led this team to a 9-3 record and they will be contenders for Victory League.
11 | Valley Christian --Santa Maria | VCA has some good shooters, but they will not likely be a huge factor in the playoffs. Still, they're a nice group of players.
12 | West Los Angeles Baptist
13 | Big Pine | |||||
14 | Calvary Chapel--Redlands |
|||||
15 | Hillcrest Christian--Thousand Oaks
