SoCalHoops HS Top 15
Division III-AA--(Revised Dec. 16, 2000)
Preseason Southern Section D-IIIAA Top 15 (revised Dec. 16, 2000)I
| Bishop Montgomery | Defending State D-III champions return all but Brian Pruitt from last year. Errick & Derrick Craven have signed with USC, DeVaughan Peace has signed with UC Irvine, and the Knights also feature senior speedster Kenny D'Oyen and Fred Washington (6'-4" So. G/F).
| Centennial--Compton | Compton Centennial was a solid contender even before the addition of Tony Key and Rodney Biggers. Freshman Gabriel Pruitt, Aaron afflalo, as well as senior Jamal Barnes make this a really tough team.
| Sherman Oaks Notre Dame | Cody Pearson, Mike Luderer, Ruben Sanchez, and a solid group of supporting players have given Notre Dame the best shot at a Mission League title and a CIF section title in years. They've only played limited preseason games but haven't lost yet.
| Burroughs-Ridgecrest | USC-signee Rory O'Neil brings the offensive power and finesse to Ridgecrest, along with Paul Graham, Levi Steinmetz, and a great supporting group make this a contender.
| San Dimas | Jason Greenlee, Paul Marshall, and Curtis Small have already given San Dimas Coach Prestesater his 400th career win this season. CIF Section finalists two years ago, they could again challenge for a title.
| Riverside King | Playing without seniors, Marvin Lea and Leon Rosborough have been the impetus for King's excellent preseason run.
| Pomona | A solid start with some good preseason wins bodes well for the Red Devils. Watch for Odell Howard, Darnell Buchanon and Spencer Smith
| Morningside | Early preseason losses are deceptive due to their tough schedule against the top teams in higher divisions. Morningside is a solid contender, led by Marlon Brisco, Dave Payne, Daniel Campbell, Marques Calcote and a tough group of senior talent.
| La Canada | Jordan Ballard, Robbie Neyland, Kurt Turley, Joel Kim, Mark Moore, Greg Gaudino and Billy Hofman are the core of this Spartan team which thus far has lost only one game out of 7 in the preseason.
| Chaminade | Santa Clara University-signee Scott Borchart (6'-8" Sr. PF), and a solid supporting group, including Ryan Arceo, Jeff Hufford, Jordan O'Gilvie, Will Sheslow, and some interesting freshmen make this another solid Chaminade team. Whether the Eagles can beat league rival Notre Dame and have enough depth to make a serious run in the playoffs is an unknown right now, but they have talent and good coaching.
| Blair | Darryl Strawberry Jr. and Douglas Ealy have been the big scorers for Blair in the preseason, and junior Robbie Tucker has made some key plays as well, as has Damion Jackson. A team which could make some noise this year.
| Costa Mesa | Chad Vakili, David Conte and Mike Payne have formed the main offensive core for Costa Mesa in the preseason. An improving team.
| Gladstone | Darrell White has been a prolific scorer, and Gladstone has also gotten good contributions from Dominique Nevers, Freddy Gonzalez, and Lamont Alexander. A team to watch.
| Santa Paula | Inconsistent preseason results thus far, Santa Paula has a couple of guys capable of scoring in bunches, including Ryan Frutos, an excellent three-point shooter and Luis Rico. Whether they can gain more consistency and have the necessary depth is an open question.
| Ganesha | Michael Eferberha has shown excellent ability to put points on the board; team however has been inconsistent and will need to improve to stay ranked.
