Mission Valley League 2001-02--(Nov. 9, 2001)
MISSION VALLEY LEAGUE Arroyo El Monte Gabrielino Mountain View Rosemead South El Monte |
The Mission Valley League is one of those leagues which overall isn't really that successful when teams face outside competition. Other than Rosemead last year, which won 16 games prior to the playoffs, not one of these teams would have qualified for the playoffs based on the 11-win rule. And considering three teams were eligible for the playoffs based on the order of league finish, it was remarkable that none of them made it past the first round. Rosemead made the Division II-A playoffs but lost in the first round to Los Altos. Gabrielino qualified for the Division III-AA playoffs but lost to Corona del Mar in the first round. El Monte qualified for the Division II-AA playoffs but lost in the first round to Santa Barbara. But consider this: The teams are relatively evenly matched against one another, so league games are interesting and exciting, and isn't that what high school basketball is really all about?
What follows is what we know about the teams thus far this season, which means we're looking at old rosters and trying to predict who will be returning and which younger players will be stepping up. The schedules are accurate as far as we know. We encourage coaches to send us their official rosters (via e-mail, not on the message board, please) and any other information about their teams so we can update the previews and rosters as the season progresses.
