The high school "regular" season is getting into full swing now; only a few City Section games yet (they're still out of school on winter break and won't return until next week) but there were plenty of Southern Section games. We'll be updating this page throughout the day, so check back for more scores as they come in. 

City Section League Games

Bravo Magnet 78, San Fernando 76 (2OT)--

Grant 61, Birmingham 58-- Ryan Logan sank two free throws with eight seconds left in overtime to secure a 61-58 victory over the Patriots in a nonleague game at Birmingham.  With Grant trailing, 48-46, Logan was fouled on a three-point shot with 11 seconds left in regulation.  Logan, an 89% free throw shooter, missed all three shots.  But Edison grabbed the rebound on the third miss and converted a follow-up shot with seven seconds left to tie it, 48-48.  The game had nine ties and 12 lead changes. Birmingham dropped to 5-9 with the loss. Grant (12-2), went into the overtime period with an 8-0 run but struggled down the stretch. Trailing, 59-53, with 40 seconds remaining, Birmingham got within a point 28 seconds later on Nick Halic's three-pointer and Delta Moore's layup following a Grant turnover. Birmingham's Aaron Burgin--who did not score--missed a three-point, turnaround-jumper from the baseline as time expired.  DeWayne Anderson, Grant's top scorer who averages 13.2 points a game, scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half.  Edison, who had eight rebounds, scored all of his 11 points after halftime.  Halic finished with 13 points for the Patriots, and Moore and Mshak Ghazarian each added 11.

Condor League

Cate 66, Cornerstone Christian 25--Cade Carradine led the Rams with 17 points in a Condor League opener at Cate. Inglewood 48, Centennial 43--DeAngelo Collins scored eight of his game-high 16 points in the third quarter to rally the Sentinels (10-3, 1-0) from a seven-point halftime deficit. Collins also added nine rebounds.

Morningside 66, South Torrance 54--Senior forward Dwayne Totter scored 12 points to lead the Monarchs (9-4, 1-0) to the road win. Junior guard Tracy Cathey contributed 11 points for Morningside. Senior Spartan (9-4, 0-1) guard David Aupiu led all scorers with 17 points.

Peninsula 59, Redondo 55 (OT)-- In front of a packed Peninsula crowd, the Panthers beat the Sea Hawks in overtime, 59-55. Ryan Johnson and Andrew Yim scored 15 points each to rally Peninsula (9-4, 1-0) from a 10-point third-quarter deficit. Peninsula outscored Redondo, 30-16, in the fourth quarter and overtime period. Dan Yerelian put Peninsula ahead to stay in overtime, converting a four-point play, which gave the Panthers what would turn out to be the margin of victory. Ryan Mollins scored a game-high 21 points for the Sea Hawks (11-2, 0-1). Andrew Zahn added 14.

Santa Monica 55, North Torrance 48--no details were available

Express League

Liberty Christian 45, Southlands Christian 39--Caleb Stephens' 21 points and Paul Francis' 14 helped the Minutemen (3-7) win the league opener at home.

Freedom League

Masada 67, Zinesmeyer 26--Gregory Archie had 11 points, 15 rebounds and five assists for the host Knights (7-1, 4-0) in just two quarters. Jaamal Duncan added 12 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks.

Garden Grove League

Pacifica 62, Santiago 46--The Mariners (4-10) beat the Cavaliers (1-14) in the league opener for both teams. Joel Bruck led Pacifica with 13 points.

La Quinta 57, Garden Grove 43--Matt Blanchard scored 26 points to guide the Aztexs (5-10) past the visiting Argonauts (2-10) in another league opener.

Golden West League

Ocean View 64, Saddleback 41--The second ranked Seahawks (14-2) were led by Marcus Crane's 21 points in a league opener over the home Roadrunners (2-12).

Tustin 60, Westminster 52--The Tillers (3-12) knocked off the Lions (3-10) who were led by Andy Walden's 19 points in the league opener.

Liberty League

Buckley 72, Viewpoint 66--Colin Ward-Henninger scored 17 of his 33 points for the Griffins in the fourth quarter of a Liberty League victory at Buckley.  David Gale added nine assists and six steals for Buckley (8-2, 2-0).

Marmonte League

Simi Valley 73, Thousand Oaks 71--Branduinn Fullove made a 15-footer at the buzzer and the top-ranked Pioneers won a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.  Fullove finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Brett Michel scored 22 for Simi Valley (12-2, 1-0), which trailed by eight points in the third quarter.   Kyle Kegley scored 26 points for Thousand Oaks (8-6, 0-1). 

Moorpark 69, Westlake 58--Todd Tomlinson and Ryan Moser each scored 23 points Wednesday night to lead Moorpark High (12-2, 1-0) to a 69-58 Marmonte League victory over visiting Westlake (10-5, 0-1).  Moorpark's Peter Dalrymple, Ronn Russ and Jef Illions each had seven rebounds. Westlake's Tyler Adamczyk had 13 points and Adam Mazarei added 11 points.  Moser made six three-point baskets in 15 shots for the Musketeers (12-2). Tomlinson made nine of 23 shots including a two-for-10 effort from three-point range.  Tyler Adamczyk, who picked up his fourth foul early in the third quarter, was held to 13 points for the Warriors (10-5).  Joe Tormos, Ron Russ and Pete Dalrymple took turns guarding Adamczyk, who averages 18.3, in a man-to-man defense.

Newbury Park 66, Agoura 53--Matt Currie scored 11 of his 23 points in the third quarter to help the Panthers break a 24-24 tie at halftime in a Marmonte League opener at Newbury Park.  Will Svitek scored 18 points for the Panthers (7-5, 1-0), who outscored Agoura in the third
quarter, 22-11.  Agoura was led by Johnny Gray with 13 points and Andre Woodert with 12.  

Mission League

Alemany 70, Notre Dame 58--Reny Meynard scored 30 points and Byron Joseph added 14 for the Indians (6-8, 1-0) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.  Cody Pearson scored 21 points for Notre Dame (10-4, 0-1), ranked No. 7 in the region. 

Harvard-Westlake 72, Crespi 66--  Russell Lakey scored 30 points, dished out eight assists and left Crespi feeling helpless in Harvard-Westlake's 72-66 victory.  Crespi guard Andrew Moore had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Lakey scored 24 points in the first half and made eight of 11 shots. Crespi (8-6) fell behind, 21-9, after one quarter, making just three of 16 shots. The Celts trailed, 44-35, at halftime.  Crespi put together the first of two second-half surges to start the third quarter, going on a 7-0 run. But when the Celts started to double-team Lakey, 6-5 Eric Geffner stepped up for the Wolverines (10-4), and he scored 11 of his 19 points in the second half. In the last five minutes of the game, Crespi went to a zone, and it stopped the HW scoring run, and Crespi closed the gap as Moore hit a three-pointer and Pat Casella scored on consecutive driving layups, cutting the Celts' deficit to 65-62 with five minutes left. 

Moore League

Compton 65, Long Beach Wilson 38--The visiting Tarbabes jumped out to a 34-12 lead at the half and were never threatened by the Bruins who dropped to 6-9 overall 0-1 in league.  Senior forward Jeremiah Thompson had 15 points for Compton and led four other Tarbabes in double figures.  Compton is now 8-2 overall and 1-0 in league.  Jonathan Henderson had 12 points, David Dixon 10, and Donovan Morgan had 10 for Compotn.

Long Beach Poly 95, Lakewood 48--The host Jackrabbits (11-3, 1-0) blitzed gthe Lancers 36-8 in the first quarter and cruised to the league win.   Poly got scoring from 14 players, and was led by Wesley Stokes with 14 points, and Markeee White with 11.  Lakewood (7-8, 0-1) had 10 points from Robert Hicks and another 10 from Adam Sahagun.

Long Beach Jordan 65, Millikan 44--Travon Bryant led all scorers with 23 points and 9 bolocked shots to lead Jordan (8-6, 1-0) to the league win. He controlled the offensive and defensive backgoards completely with 9 rebounds (5 defensive). Millikan trailed 37-21 at the half, but then readjusted it's defensive shceme and held the Panthers scoreless throughout the first three mintutres of the third quarter but Jordan still managed to hang on to the lead 49-33 going into the fourth.   Millikan's Rodney Spencer scored 12 of his 16 oints in the fourth as Millikan came back and challeged Jordan, cutting the lead to 53-43 with four minutes remaining, and then cut it to 53-47 as he hit a three pointer, his second of the quarter.  But Travon reasserted himself again, and blocked Sean Burris' layup and following Kendall Lucas' missed turnaround with a slam dunk to begin a 7-2 run that put the game aw for good.   Rashawn Childs also had 10 for Jordan, while Lance Filer finished with 13 for Millikan which drops to 5-10 overall and 0-1 in league. 

Northern League

Arroyo Grande 74, Righetti

Suburban League

Cerritos 64, Norwalk 32--Cerritos applied solid defensive pressure throughout the game to limit the Lancers to just five first quarter points as Cerritos rolled to the league win.  Senior forward Anthony Alexander   had 20 points and 9 rebounds for Cerritos (7-7, 1-0).  Norwalk (1-10, 0-1) got 10 points from Carlos Plimentes.

Artesia 91, Glenn 54--Jack Martinez missed the game due to illness but even without him, the visiting Pioneers ran out to a 29-9 first quarter lead and never looked back, beating the Eagles (1-8, 0-1). Artesia (12-1, 1-0) won it's 57th consecutive Suburban League game.  Amaury Fernandez had 17 points and led five Pioneers in double figures: Tony Roberts 16, Franklin Matos 15, Ryan Reyes 13, and Andre Hazel 10.

Mayfair 67, La Mirada 37--Josh Childress scored 7 of his 19 points in the 3rd quarter to help the Monsoons improve to 11-3 overall and 1-0 in league with thewin over the visiting Matadores (0-1 in league).  Mayfair broke th egame open in the third quarter, outscoring La Mirada 19-2.  Guard Chris Pittman also had 14 points for Mayfair.

Valle Vista League

Bonita 62, Covina 53--Chris Dean scored 19 points and Alan Erving scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to give Bonita (9-4, 1-0) its first league win. David Musa scored 13 points in the win for the Bearcats. Bonita will play on Friday at Northview.

Northview 71, Sierra Vista 57

San Dimas 76, Ganesha 46--Ganesha (6-7, 0-1) fell in its first league game despite Franklin Ike's 22 points and 11 rebounds. The game was close until San Dimas went on a 9-0 run in the last minute of the first half. Jason Romero was held to four points but grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 12 assists for the Giants. San Dimas (10-3, 1-0) was led by Jason Geenlee's 32 points, on 12-of-19 shooting from the floor. Matt Grundy scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds for the Saints. Ganesha plays Friday at Covina High School.

South Hills 53, BValdwin Park 50-- South Hills was led by Kraig Smith with 17, and improved to 8-5 overall, while Baldwin Park (5-7) was led by David Cordero with 23. The second quarter proved decisive for South Hills, outscoring BP 20-9, and even though South Hills was outscored 16-4 in the third, they hung on for the win.  

Westside League

Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian 76, West LA Baptist 51--Amit Nat had 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Amrit Nat had 12 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Eagles in a Westside League victory at Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian (6-7, 1-0).

Southern Section Non-League Games

Alta Loma 52, Rowland Heights Rowland 41--Sean Moore scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and James Rocco scored 12 points in the win for Alta Loma (5-12). Sir Flemming scored eight points in the win for the Braves. Alta Loma will open Mt. Baldy League play at Rancho Cucamonga on Friday.

Big Bear 59, Lucerne Valley 41

Bishop Amat 74, Pioneer 62

Brethren Christian 89, Southland Christians 16--Brethren was lied by Samuels with 18 points, and Mamaradlo with 16, and improved its record to 9-7 overall.  SCC remains winless at 0-7.

Buena Park 65, Savanna 52-- Matt Rodriguez scored 18 points to lead the Coyotes (10-6) in the home opener.  Three other BP players scored in double figures in the home opening win over the Rebels (9-7), including Buzzini 12, Gibson 113, Rodriquez 18, and Ingram 14. Buena Park outscored Savanna 17 to 9 in the fourth quarter and Chris Ingram had 10 rebounds to lead the Coyotes. 

Chaparral 47, Temescal Canyon 42

Charter Oak 59, Azusa 50--Justin Lozano scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to improve the Chargers to 9-7.  Eddie Myrics had a game-high 26 points for the Aztecs.

Claremont 66, Lancaster 46--Claremont (13-3) came back in the second half to defeat Lancaster. The Wolfpack was down three at the half but held the Eagles to only six field goals in the second half to earn the victory. Thomas Taylor led the comeback by scoring all 16 of his points in the second half. Shaddeen Aaron had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Wolfpack. Claremont opens league play Friday night at Upland High School at 7:30.

Corona Centenial 73, Perris 51

Cypress 46, Los Alamitos 36--The Centurions (10-5) surprised Los Al to beat the third ranked Griffins (12-2) on their own court. Justin Yum scored 21 of Cypress 28 points in the second half and shot 11 for 12 from the line in the fourth quarter. Cypress had a 12-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

Dana Hills 76, Aliso Niguel 73--Andrew Spauling scored 17 points and Mitch Matthews added another 16 for the visiting Dolphins (6-10) agains the Wolverines (9-7). Sky Chambers had 13 rebounds fo rthe Wolverines. 

Diamond Bar 62, Corona 54

Diamond Ranch 64, Damien 56--Richard Coombs scored 28 points and had three steals that helped pace host Diamond Ranch to a 64-56
nonleague win over Damien (9-7) on Wednesday night. Aaron Garcia of Diamond Ranch gave his team some well needed energy when he had a spectacular dunk in the third quarter that propelled the Panthers to outscore the Spartans 19-12 in that quarter.  In the fourth quarter, Diamond Ranch started with an 8-0 run that put the game away.

Downey 70, Chino 57--Senior guard Joe Firas had a game high 23 poiknts and Steve Sawyer added another 10 as the host Vikings (11-3) downed the Coboys (8-8) in a nonleague game.  Downey hosts Marshall in a nonleague game Saturday night at 7.

Elsinore 69, Hemet West Valley 55

Estancia 57, Anaheim 56--Jason Simco hit the game winning free throws with just 8 seconds remaining to give the Eagles (11-5) the win at home over Anaheim, which was led by Salcedo with 20.  Estancia was led by Garner with 19

Flintridge Prep 69, Don Bosco Tech 43--Flintridge Prep was led by Brian Strnad and Deven Brown who both finished with 16 points each; Bosco Tech was led by Alfred O'Dell with 12.  Brown had 4 three pointers and Flintridge improved to 8-5 overall while Bosco Tech dropped to 3-11.

Laguna Hills 55, Fountain Valley 48--Marshall Houser's 18 points paced the Hawks (10-6) in the home opener against the Barons (11-5). Edmunns scored 11 to lead FV. Kaden Stone had 14 rebounds for the Hawks.

Los Altos 62, West Covina 50

Malibu 59, Thacher 57 (OT)

Magnolia 66, El Modean 50--Geoffrey Clayton scored 18 points and Vincent Bryant added 16 as the Sentinels (14-2) beat the Vanguards (4-12) at home.  Jacob Davis had 20 rebounds for Magnolia.  Stia Asoau added sevent steals for the Sentinels.

Mission Viejo 66, Sonora 50--Francis Ireifej's 16 points an dMatt Cole's 14 led the Diablos (9-7) to the home win.. Eric Engstrom scored 4 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Diablos. 

Montebello 68, Duarte 62--Montebello was led by Sal Gutierrez who scored 21 points and Jason Ludwig with 12.  Calvin Byrd had 12 and Matt Carter had 11 for Duarte. Montebello is 6-10.

Oak Park 69, Calabasas 49--Zach Smith scored 14 of his 21 points in the first half for the Eagles in a nonleague game at Calabasas.   Jeremy Murphy made nine of 10 free throws and finished with 19 points for Oak Park (10-5).  Derek Jacobi scored 16 in the victory at Calabasas (1-15)

Oxnard 74, Buena 60--Nick Curtis scored 20 points and Ricky Hernandez added 14 to for the Yellowjackets (12-4) in a nonleague victory at Buena. Curtis also had 20 rebounds for Oxnard, ranked No. 5 in the region.  Ryan Cobos scored 11 points and five assists for Buena (4-12).
Matt Colton scored 10. Robby Blanks had six rebounds and eight points.

Pasadena 68, Lynwood 49--Pasadena was led by Dino Wilburn with 19 points.  Others in double figures for the Bulldogs were Reggie Harmon with 14, Doug Thomas with 16, and Josh Duncan 13.  Lynwod was led by Keion Kinsie with 19 and Jontae Vinson with 12.  Pasadena improved to 9-5 overall.

Price 69, Orange Lutheran 47--Jason Whieldon's 22 points and Patrick Salyers 15 were not enough as the visiting Lancers (12-3) lost to Price, which remains one of the few unbeaten teams in the Southern Section at 14-0. Price was led by Jameson with 18, Mychal Lynch with 11, Jones 13, Alexander 6, Othel Johnson 8, and Allen 2. Price jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead and then led 36-17 at the half.

Rancho Cucamonga 78, Moreno Valley 56--Derick Andrew scored 25 points and Cory Starks scored 19 to keep Rancho Cucamonga undefeated at 15-0. Jon Wollam grabbed 13 rebounds and Alonzo Williams added eight steals and 10 assists in the win for the Cougars.

Riverside Poly 71, La Sierra 56

Santa Barbara 77, Santa Paula 51--KC. Walling went 5-for-5 on 3-pointers in the first half, tying a school record, and finished with 20 points as Santa Barbara improved to 12-2.  Santa Barbara went 10-for-19 on 3-pointers for the game, with most of the makes coming in the first half. The Dons jumped to leads of 27-10 and 51-26 in the first two periods.  Dommanic Ingerson finished with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and five assists while Trey Putnam (12) and Brent Williams (11) also scored in double figures. Jacob Macias led Santa Paula with 15 points. SANTA PAULA--Zavala 3, Macias 15, Frutos 2, Mata 9, Rico 5, Lopez 4, Bustos 1, Gangli 8. Totals 20 3-8 51. Santa Clara 59, La Canada 50--Jason Angell scored a game-high 19 points and Earl Hall added 10 points to lift Santa Clara (9-4) at La Canada (9-4). Santa Clara's Chris Post and David Ramirez each added nine points.

Santa Margarita 74, Orange 38--The Eagles (13-3) ranked seventh by Orange County Sportswriters, had four players score in double fiures (Smith 11, Socci 11, Collins 14, and rohe 13) as they won against the Panthers (3-12) at Orange.

Santa Ynez 76, Bishop Diego 61--Matt McKinney scored 14 of his game-high 32 points in the third quarter to help the Pirates pull away with the non-league win.  Santa Ynez (5-10) hit 24-of-31 free throws, including 10 in the final quarter. Jaime Sanchez led Bishop Diego (7-8) with 24 points, including three treys. Matt Capritto had 14 points. BISHOP DIEGO -- Renick 4, Capritto 14, Gilles 3, Sanchez 24, Scheftic 10, Corsan 7. Totals 23 8-15 61. SANTA YNEZ -- Bratcher 6, Muller 4, Jones 9, Wooten 13, McKinney 32, Dreher 9, Billings 4. Totals 27 24-31 76. San Marino 41, Southwestern Acadmey 30-- Turnovers and poor ball handling by Southwestern proved to be the difference in a 41-30 nonleague loss as San Marino (7-7) won. Trailing by seven with 3:15 remaining in the first half, the Sun wen on a 10-3 run, taking the lead 16-15 following a fastbreak dunk by Anthony Naylor, who finished with 9 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.  But when Naylor hung on the rim he was called for a technical and the ensuing free throw tied the score at 16. San Marino then outscored Southwestern 14-1 in the third quarter, holding them scorless for 5;36 and forcing 10 turnovers.  The Sun (4-6) then came back and cut the deficit to 8, but two key fourth quarter 3 pointers by San Marino's Krishna Ramaswamy, (16 points, four three's) sealed the win.     

Servite 78, La Salle 69--Jason Kenoyer scored a game-high 24 points and Chris Rakiewicz had 10 for the Lancers, who dropped to 12-5.

St. Bernard 62, Carson 60--Bernard McCumby hit the game-winning jump shot with 3 seconds remaining to lift the Vikings (15-2) at Carson (9-7). Brandon Williams led all scorers with 18 points for St. Bernard, and McCumby and Donald Penn each had 11. Marques Washington scored 16 points for Carson, which made 11 of 22 free-throw attempts

Temecula Valley 48, Indio 38--The Rajahs (7-6) led 29-20 at the half but Temecula Valley finished the game by making good on 24 of 33 free throw attempts. Temecula Valley: 4 16 13 15 -- 48 Indio: 17 12 7 2 -- 38 Temecula Valley: Menanico 2, Rentie 9, Moore 2, Lewis 8, Phillips 15, Bacthler 7, Forrest 5. Free throws 24-33 Indio: Frank Rodriguez 10, Eddie Silva 2, Michael Torres 7, Tom Ogimachi 2, Darrell Garcia 13, Zac Balver 4. Free throws: 5-6.

Temple City 56, Gabrielino 55--The Rams trailed by 11 points with less than three minutes to play, but their freshmen starters did not let the team lose. Freshman Kevin Sweeney led the way for the Rams with 17 points and six steals. Another freshman, 5-7 Eric Reed, grabbed nine rebounds.

Troy 62, Brea Olinda 61 (OT)--Ray Mike made the game winning basket for Troy in the overtime win at Brea Olinda, with one second remainin in the overtime period to cap a second half comeback for the Warriors who are now ranked by the Orange County Sportswriters as the No. 4 team.  Troy improves to 15-1 overall, while Brea drops to 10-5.  Brea had a 12 point leadin the third quarter and Ryan Moore scored 10 of his 20 in the period. Troy's Mark Ahlberg scored a game high 34 p;oints and he had 10 as well in the third, and 13 in the fourth leading to the comeback, which was helped by Brea shooting 1-13 in the fourth quarter. In overtime, Ahlberg scored inside to make the score 60-58, and when Ryan Wilber hit a free throw with 32 seconds to give Brea the lead 61-60, it looked like Brea had it won especially when Brea's Kirk Riemer blocked Ahlberg's shot with only four seconds on the clock.  But Troy inbounded to Ahlberg who shot again, missed, and then Mike got the rebound and baked the ball in for the game winning basket.

Ventura 60, Channel Islands 50--Tyler Ebell had 22 points, including four three-point baskets, for the Cougars in a nonleague victory at Ventura. Mike Derse and Antwaine Richards each scored 12 points for Ventura (11-5). Derse had eight rebounds and Richards had three steals. Channel Islands (9-6) was led by Mike Keddington and Alex Solis with 12 points each and Manny Bellereza with 11.
