Recap & Details: Boys Southern Section Games
From Thursday 1/13/00--(Jan. 14, 2000)

There were only a handful of games played yesterday, and we've got most of the results and even some details from the ones that we could find. We'll try to have today's Southern Section schedule posted up shortly because there are a ton of games today and tonight.  Choices, choices, choices. . . .  The leading scorers from yesterday, from what we've been able to ascertain were Jonathan Serber (SOCES-- 28), Jason Tubbs (Ribet--25), David Gale (Buckley--23) and Tyler Graves (Capistrano Valley Christian--22).  Other details and scores will roll in thorughout the day, so check back for the missing ones later in the day. . .

LA City Section League Games

Magnet League

Sherman Oaks CES 74, Mid-City Magnet 62--SOCES (5-5, 4-0) was led by Jonathan Serber with 28 points, while Curtis Buchannan added 13.   Mid City (3-1 in league) was led by Carl with 24.

Academy League

Capistrano Valley Christian 59, Orangewood Academy 47-- Tyler Graves led both teams with 22 points and Jordan Sukut added 10 points and eight rebounds to led the Eagles (6-9, 3-1) over the Spartans (8-5, 3-1).  David Roth added five points, 13 rebounds and had seven assists for the Eagles.

Alpha League

Kilpatrick 64, Village Christian 59-- Tarrance Manaco scored 18 for Kilpatrick, and Earl Warren a student assigned to Kilpatrick from Crenshaw, scored 15 in the win over Valley Christian (8-8, 1-1).  Village Christian was led by clint Hamblin with 16, Paul Gilmore with 14, and Jeremy Gonzalaes with 11, as well as Darryl Ellis' 11.

LA Baptist 54, Paraclete 50--LA Baptist (6-9, 2-1) was led in scoring by Andrew Peterson's 15 pokints and Mike Madigan's 14.  Others scoring were Bloomfiled 9, Sanders 3, Acuna 4, Roth 5, Chavez 2 and Berglun 2.   Paraclete (3-13, 0-2) was led in scoring by Brian Whisler with 20.

Western Christian 62, Woodcrest Christian 52--Western Christian (11-6,  4-0) was led in scoring by Shawn Lokar with 17 points and Joey Dychart with 16. Woodcrest Christian was led in scoring by Powers with 19 and Reed with 14.

Ontario Christian 76, Mesa Grande 60--no details, just a box: ONTARIO CHRISTIAN (76) Verkaik 23, Fuqua 19, Veenendaal 14, Hoekstra 11, Landry 6, Nanninga 2, Stone 1. Ribet 74, First Lutheran 48--Ribet (10-2, 6-0) was led by Jason Tubbs with 25 points and Matt Houghton with 15. Melchior Manglicmot also added 15 for the Fighting Frogs.  Ribet's 32-10 scoring run in the second quarter was instrumental in the win and gave them a 24 point lead at the half. First Lutheran (8-5, 2-1) was led by John Stark with 23 and 17 rebounds, and Chad Durso with 14.

Liberty League

Buckley 61, Yeshiva 57--Buckley (10-2, 4-0) was led by sophomore point guard David Gale (6'-0" So. PG) with 23 points (14 in the second quarter), 8 assists and 5 steals as the Griffins, ranked 9th in the CIF Southern Section D-VAA poll,  won their fourth league game in a row.  Buckley was also led in scoring by Adam Pastor (6'-0" Sr. SG/PG) with 15 and Colin Ward-Henninger (6'-4" Jr. SF/SG) with 12. Mike Lalazerian (5'-11" Sr. SG) also had 11 for the Griffins.   Highlights of the game will be shown on KCAL Channel 9 (in LA) this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. on the LA Times Prep Sports Show, hosted by Jake Downey. Yeshiva (4-2 in league) was led in scoring by Katz with 15, Stein 14, and Hami 12.  The Griffins were given a big boost when Avi Hami fouled out with 3 minutes to go in the game and Buckley leading by 8.  

Windward 50, Viewpoint 42--The Windward Wildcats (8-7, 3-2) managed to reverse a two game losing streak (to Buckley and Providence) with the win Thursday night at home against Viewpoint (1-6 in league). Steven Leeb and Brandon Cane each had 16 for Windward.  Viewpoint was led by Bly with 17 and Mastriciano had 12.

Metro League

Calvary Chapel Redlands 47, Upland Christian 45-- No details, just a box: UPLAND CHRISTIAN (45) Surmi 11, Cromer 6, Roberds 13, Sears 4, Chiappone 8, Armella 3. CALVARY CHAPEL (47) Martinez 7, Trementozzi 13, Davis 1, Cowen 6, Holz 20. Upland Christian 11 17 9 8 -- 45 Calvary Chapel 15 12 11 9 -- 47 Total fouls: UC 18, CC 21. Fouled out: none. Hillcrest Christian GH 78, West Valley Chrisitan 39--HC (8-7, 3-0) was led by Alex Martino with 15 points, 6 assists and 5 steals, while Mike Newham with 13 and 15 rebounds.  West Valley Christian was led by Bell with 20.

Milken 72, Santa Clarita Christian 46-- Milken was led by senior point guard Daniel Greenberg with 17, Bobby Bassman 14, and Alex Raminfar added 12.  Santa Clarita was led by Gregory with 13.

West LA Baptist 77, Hillcrest Christian Thousand Oaks 62-- no details were available.

Tarbut V'Torah Tournament
Championship
Tarbut V' Torah 62, Fairmont 38--Noam Dashti had 17 points and 12 rebounds Thursday to lead Tarbut V'Torah past Fairmont, 62-38, in the finals of the Tarbut V'Torah Classic. Abel Matan added 14 points and 17 rebounds for the Lions (13-1), who won their 11th consecutive game. Tarbut V'Torah led 30-12 at halftime.
