Recap: Boys' Game Results & Details From
Monday, Jan. 24--(Jan. 25, 2000)

There were just a handful of games on the CIF Master Schedule and we're not certain how many of them were actually played, but these are the ones for which results (either scores, details or both) were available.  If you know of a game which took place in the Southern Section or the City Section that we haven't reported on, let us know by posting it on tghe message board or by sending us an e-mail.   

Southern Section League Games

Desert Valley League

Cathedral City 88, Palm Springs 67--The Lions regrouped after losing last week with a win over Palm Desert on Friday and then shot 58% from the field against the Indians last night to 4-1 in the Desert Valley League. Paul Heredia was one of four players to score in double digits for the Lions, finishing with 11 points, six in the first quarter and five in the third. Gerald DeVance was 12-of-12 from the free throw line, finishing with a game-high 29 points. And David Ochoa finished with 11. The Lions were up 19-16 after the first quarter but blew the game open in the second and third quarters, going on a 13-0 run late in the second to put the Lions up 45-29 and went on a 13-6 spurt midway through the third to go up 60-37. Palm Springs made things easy; and during Cathedral City’s 13-0 run, the Indians went 0-8 from the floor and had five of their attempts blocked. Three of those blocks went to Thomas Shewmake.

Pioneer Baptist 58, New Roads 37--details not available

Freedom League

Masada 60, Los Pinos 36--details were not available.

Twin Pines 50, Wilson Creek 45--Banning Twin Pines outscored Yucaipa Wilson Creek 16-4 in the first quarter and held on for a Freedom League victory. Sophomore forward Pete Taylor scored 14 points (12 in the fourth quarter), grabbed seven rebounds and made three steals, and senior forward Patrick Shields added 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals for the Eagles (3-4, 9-5), who trailed 48-45 with nine seconds left and had a chance to tie but lost the ball out of bounds. Twin Pines is 6-2 in league.WILSON CREEK (45) -- King 9, Bush 2, Shields 13, Taylor 14, B. Lee 4, J. Lee 3. TWIN PINES (50) -- Ware 2, Bell 6, Bowen 12, Galvez 2, Ahumudia 12, Fiscus 16. Halftime score -- Twin Pines 30-15. Three-point goals -- King, Fiscus. Total fouls -- Wilson Creek 14, Twin Pines 13.

Garden Grove League

La Quinta/Westminster 60, Garden Grove 59--Matt Blanchard led La Quinta with 25 points and  hit 6 of 7 free throws in the final two minutes to seal the win for the Aztecs (7-14, 3-4) over Garden Grove (2-5 in league). Blanchard also hit four three pointers.

Rancho Alamitos 61, Los Amigos 59--Scott Frank scored 16 points and Duane Nix added 13 to lead the Vaqueros (9-11, 2-5) over Los Amigos (8-13, 4-3).  Los Amigos had two players in double figures, Vu with 17 and Chau with 11.

Pacifica 77, Santiago 46--Joel Brock had 20 points and seven rebounds and Rey Santos added 17 points to lead the Mariners (11-9, 6-1) over Santiago (2-19, 1-6).

Metro League

California Lutheran 60, Upland Christian 48----Point guard Phil Neujahr scored a season-high 30 points to lead Wildomar Cal Lutheran (6-2, 9-6) to a Metro League victory over Upland Christian. Neujhar, a junior, made 12 of 14 free throws. CAL LUTHERAN (60) -- Neujahr 30, Wenzel 12, Campbell 7, Johnson 6, Breipkreutz 4, Lyon 1. UPLAND CHRISTIAN (48) -- Robbers 11, Svrmi 8, Armella 7, Padelford 6, Toupal 6, Chappone 4, Cromel 4, Sears 2. Halftime score -- Cal Lutheran, 31-20. Three-point goals -- Robbers 2. Total fouls -- Cal Lutheran 15, Upland 19. Fouled out -- Johnson.

Calvary Chapel Redlands @ Victor Valley Christian--game not reported

Mission League

Loyola 48, St. Francis 45--Loyla (8-12, 3-4) picked up a much needed win to keep them in the hunt for the playoffs against league rival St. Francis (10-10, 3-4).  Loyola was led by Shaun Srosner with 13, Omar Wilkes 12, and Matt Llewellyn with 7 points and 7 assists.  Others scoring for Loyola were Tannenbaum 4, Elliot 4, Ste. Marie 2, Gaston 5, and McClenahan 1.  For St. Francis Sims had 16, Jeff Brown 11, Jenkins 9, Mitchell 2, Gonzalez 2, Vidarrazaga 3, and John 2.   Score by quarters:  St. Francis--13  7  12  13--45; Loyola--13   10  10  15--48.

Moore League

Jordan 75, Millikan 56 -- Despite playing without Tr4avon Bryant for the first half and Kendall Lucas for the entire game due to disciplinary reasons, the Panthers (12-8, 6-1) still won the game easily over the visiting Rams.  Bryant finished with just six points while Ronald Banks led Jordan in scoring with 18 while Donte Cottrell had 12.  Keith Moore led Millikan with 14.

Poly 63, Lakewood 37--Senior guard and Missouri-signee Wesley Stokes (5'-11" Sr. PG) hit a game high 20 points and Ramaan Shotwell had 15 more as the Jackrabbits remained undefeated in league play with a win over the host Lancers (18-13, 1-6).  Poly improved to 18-2 and 7-0. Adam Fahagun led Lakewood with 13.

Compton 67, Wilson 58--The TGarbabes outscored the Bruins (0-7 in league) 37-20 in the second half and senior guard Jeremiah Thompson led all scorers with 18 points at home for Compton. Jonathan Henderson also had 13 points for Compton (13-4, 5-2) who will host Poly on Friday at 7:00 p.m.  Wilson was led by Kyle Dillon's 13 points.

Victory League

Riverside Bethel Christian 55, Ambassador Christian 47--Sean Wilson made six three-pointers and scored 22 points to pace Riverside Bethel Christian over Fontana Ambassador Christian, 55-47, in a Victory League boys' basketball game Monday night. Andrew Witt had 19 rebounds, nine points and four blocks for Bethel Christian (3-2 in league, 11-7 overall) Greg Peck led Ambassador Christian (2-3, 3-5) with 18 points. BETHEL CHRISTIAN (55) -- Espinosa 4, Heiliger 9, Wilson 22, McKay 2, Wandel 8, Witt 9, Bowman 1. AMBASSADOR CHRISTIAN (47) -- Harper 10, Peck 18, Madrigal 14, Pine 4, Gloudeman 1.  Halftime score -- Bethel, 34-28. Three-point goals -- Wilson 6, Heiliger 3, Madrigal 2, Peck. Total fouls -- Bethel 12, Ambassador Christian 12. Fouled out -- None.

Westside League

Milken Community 61, Hillcrest Christian Thousand Oaks 26--Division IV-A Milken (16-4, 3-1), currently ranked No. 8 in their division by the latest CIF Southern Section poll, easily beat division V-A league rival Hillcrest Christian, behind double figure scoring from three playhers:  Daniel Greenberg 15 and 8 assists, 6 steals; Bobby Bassman 12 and 1`3 rebounds, and Alex Raminfar 12 and 14 rebounds.    Others scoring for Milken were Gervitz 5, Danishvar 4, Powell 4, Hendlish 4, Milgrom 2, Blitz 2, and Witken 1.  Hillcrest was led by Bossman with 7 and had no scorers in double figures.  Score by quarters: Hillcrest--6  7  8   5--26; Milken 16  10  20  15--61

Southern Section Non-League Games

Bell Jeff 57, Village Christian 56--see the separate report on this game.

St. Paul 79, Pioneer 56--St. Paul, fresh off a week of upsetting two more heavily favored league opponents, was led by Abraham Cruz with 17 points and Michael Holloway with 15.  The Titans dropped to 5-14, while St. Paul improved to 16-6 overall.  Landon Cardenas added another 14 for St. Paul.
