First SCIBCA Boys Basketball
Top 10 Poll: Division III--(Jan. 10, 2000)

The CIF Southern Section's official top 10 polls in boys' basketball were released this evening.  The poll is compiled by the SCIBCA (Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association).  Basically each division is composed of a committee consisting of a number of coaches who review standings, strength of schedule, results and the like. Committee members submit their respective votes and these are compiled and tabulated and the result is what you see below, i.e., the first SCIBCA Southern Section Boys' Basketball Top 10 Polls for the 1999-2000 season.   This is the first one. They'll be issued weekly hereafter until the end of the season.   The polls are not solely determinative, but they are a factor in establishing seedings for playoffs.

There are not many surprises (well, ok, there are a few) among the top 10 teams in division III.   There's only one Division in D-III this year, since D-IIIA was eliminated due to a lack of sufficient teams to form a competitive playoff pool.  This one is definitely going to be better and more competitive this year.   Here is the Division III-AA poll:

Division III-AA Top 10 Teams
1. Bishop Montgomery  13-2
2. Compton Centennial  11-4
3.  San Dimas 11-3
4.  Corona del Mar 12-5
5. Costa Mesa 15-4
6.  Morningside 9-6
7. Chaminade 9-4
8.  Harvard-Westlake 11-4
9.  Monrovia 17-1
10.  Estancia 11-6
Others:

Notre Dame, Nordhoff, Workman, Banning

Of course there will be many who will say that after tonight's 76-73 win by Harvard-Westlake over Chaminade (Russell Lakey had 36 points in a big-play performance) that Nos. 7 and 8 should be reversed, but hey, the season is still young, and the polls will be done every week.
