IV-AA & IV-A Schools For Y2K --(Jan. 3, 2000)
To ring in the new high school league season properly, and to give everyone a clearer sense of who has been playing with whom during the past month and a half in tournaments, we're posting up the CIF Division assignments for 1999-2000, which is determined by enrollment figures. The CIF Southern Section put out the preliminary playoff division lists in late November, 1999, before the "move up" date (December 15 was the last day when schools could opt to "move-up" from their regular enrollment division, or elect to stay where their enrollment kept them), and thus, this is the "early" list, and it's possible that some of these schools listed will in fact move up into a higher enrollment division (i.e., like Artesia, which is really II-A, but which moves up each year to D-IAA). It's more than likely that most of the schools will stay put. Where we know for a fact that a school has elected to move up, we've indicated it with an asterisk (*), and indicated the division to which that school is moving. So far this year, there's only two teams we know of for certain that have elected to move up, Artesia (II-A to I-AA) and Serra (V-AA to IV-A). So the fact that you won't find Serra on this list doesn't mean that they won't be in IV-AA, because they will. It's important to note that when a school moves up a full division, it must play in the higher end of the new division. In other words, a jump from II-A to I, requires that the school play in I-AA not I-A).
In any event, we'll post these lists up alphabetically, rather than by enrollment figures (the CIF sent us two different lists, but alphabetical is the only really useful one for our purposes). If we miss a school, or there's one missing from the list, well, blame the CIF Southern Section office not us. We don't make 'em up, we just report them Here's the list for all of Division IV:
