One World, One Order: Division III-AA Schools
For The Year 2000--(Jan. 3, 2000)

No, this is not some communist plot at total domination, and it's not a Revelationist reference to Armageddon. Just a reference to a small bit of reform that will hopefully make this year's Division III playoffs a little more competitive.   Last year there was a lot of controversy created by the fact that Division III was, like the rest of the CIF Southern Section divisions, divided into two separate pools for purposes of playoffs in the Sectionals:  III-A and III-AA.   The only problem with this further "subdivision", at least in D-III,   was that there were hardly enough teams to make up a decent playoff bracket (for whatever reason), and thus, this year, the two subdivisions have been eliminated and combined into a single Division III-AA.  In other words, according to the Southern Section, "Playoffs for Division III will be conducted under a single division format due to the limited number of schools in this enrollment category.  In Division IIIAA, the champion, runner-up and the two remaining semifinalists will automatically enter into the CIF State Basketball Playoffs."

Thus, even though there will only be a single pool of teams making up the D-III bracket, the Southern Section will still get the same number of teams (four per overall division, or 20 teams) sent to the State Southern Regional playoffs.   Whew. . . and we thought for a moment that the rest of the Central Division and San Diego Division were going to have a numbers advantage. . . That was a close call.   :^).   We don't know of any schools in D-III that are moving up and out to D-II or D-I, but overall, this should be a much more competitive environment for the teams in this division than last year's 8 team playoff bracket.

As with the other Divisions, we'll post this list alphabetically, rather than by enrollment figures (the CIF sent us two different lists, but alphabetical is the only really useful one for our purposes). If we miss a school, or there's one missing from the list, well, blame the CIF Southern Section office not us. We don't make 'em up, we just report them  Here's the list for all of Division III:
