CIF Southern Section Division
II-AA & II-A Placements--(Jan. 3, 2000)

With the impending start of the "real" high school season, and league competition for playoffs, there are a lot of misconceptions about which divisions each school in the Southern Section is really in.  While league competition features teams from different divisions often playing against each other, when it comes time for the playoffs, schools will compete against teams which match their own enrollment divisions (unless they choose to move up).  The CIF Southern Section put out the preliminary playoff division lists in late November, 1999,  before the "move up" date (December 15 was the last day when schools could opt to "move-up" from their regular enrollment division, or elect to stay in their enrollment division).   The list we've posted below is the "early" list (the CIF has not yet released the final list to the media, although they will shortly)  so it's possible that some of these schools listed will in fact move up into a higher enrollment division, but we don't really see that happening with many of them.  We do know that Artesia, which is really II-A, has, for the past few years, opted to "move up" to D-IAA, and we know of no reason why that won't happpen again this year. Where a school has elected to move up, we've indicated it with an asterisk (*), and indicated the division.   So far this year, there's only two teams we know of for certain that have elected to move up: Artesia (II-A to I-AA) and Serra (V-AA to IV-A).  Lots of other schools have moved up or down but that's been because of different enrollment figures than the ones used for last season.  Oh, and it's important to note that when a school moves up, they have to go to the higher end of the new division.  In other words, a jump from II-A to I, requires that the moving school play in I-AA not I-A.

In any event, we'll post these lists up alphabetically, rather than by enrollment figures (the CIF sent us two different lists, but alphabetical is the only really useful one for our purposes). If we miss a school, or there's one missing from the list, well, blame the CIF Southern Section office not us. We don't make 'em up, we just report them  Here's the list for all of Division II:
