Jason Day: Nike Dream
Classic--Jordan v.
Crossroads Photo Essay--(Jan. 25, 2000)
It's been more than a week now, but we're still catching up on the Nike Dream Classic, and our friends Jason Day and photog Larry Gray were out at the Long Beach State Pyramid for all the action (as were we), but Larry took photos that were a lot better than the stuff that we took with our Sony Mavica. Larry's got big-time, expensive equipment, not digital, but "real" photo stuff, so these have been processed and then scanned. We're sure that all you photo nuts out there can ask him how he does it, but these are first-rate, professional quality, better than anything we've been able to take, and they're not really too large for the web as a lot of the other high quality stuff you'll see elsewhere. Be patient if they take time to load (better yet, get yourself a DSL line. . . it's a lot quicker). Oh, and Jason's text isn't too bad either :^). As always, you'll also find all of Jason's and Larry's work, at UltraStudentAthletes, and if you want to reach Jason for comments you can e-mail him by clicking on the link. Here's the feature on Jordan v. Crossroads. Our own article can be found at this link.

BEATS LB JORDAN - 57-46

left)...You'd have to call this the "key" matchup in this game and surely one of the main ones the coaches came to see...(l) 6'8" Jordan Senior, Travon Bryant against (r) 6'10" Crossroads Junior, Isaiah Fox. Fox led Crossroads to the victory here with 20 pts. 11 boards, 3 blks, 3 steals, and an assist. Played great at both ends of the court.
(right)...Anthony Locke, 5'9" Junior point for "X-Roads" didn't put up the spectacular numbers, but made major contributions to this win as usual...and I agree with his dad...he needs to shoot the rock a little more...nice player.
(left)...the "old" Felipe Williams showed up for this one. The 6'4" Crossroads Senior G/F put all of his considerable athletic skills on display. Some nagging injuries were no where to be found as he dashed, slashed, and bulled his way to 23 points to lead all scorers. I here his college choices are "wide open" so he couldn't have hurt his cause with this performance.
(right)...Jordan Senior guard, Nick Tumarao left it all on the floor, but it just wasn't enough...he finished with 8, (the stat line read 12, but whatever), he had a good game...but except for Bryant, he just couldn't get much support from the rest of the team.
(left)..look at the "lift" on Crossroads Sophomore Jordan Rush. At 6'5 he gives the Roadrunners another skywalker to supplement Williams and Fox. It is absolutely hilarious to watch this kid react to his teammates screaming at him when he misses an assignment or isn't where he's supposed to be...he gets that look like.."yeah, yeah, yo senior asses will be gone next year..."...he just may be one of the "main" men then...nice player..lots of potential...only 2 pts...but 6 boards, a blk, and an assist. Here he attempts to "pancake" Jordan's Kendall Lucas.
(right)..15 pts., 10 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist...and at least one real nice dunk...Travon Bryant at da rack.
(left)...Fox sets for the rebound.....
(right)...then looks for someone to pass it to....
(left)...Williams, at times, played like a young man possessed....here he attacks the rim against Bryant.
This was a pretty good game...another one in a long day of pretty good games....
