DeMoney: National Prep Poll,
Week 6--(Jan. 11, 2000)

We love polls. . . wait, did we say that?  No, we detest polls.  Ok, we love to print them, and complain about the, but compiling them is really a pain, and we're not sure what they really tell us anyway,  but lots of people enjoy reading about them, so we're happy to continue to post them here.  Jamie DeMoney and Jeremy Plowman (two guys we haven't had the pleasure of meeting) have been doing these national prep polls for many, many years.  Just ask them and they'll tell you, "We've been doing these polls for many, many years."  At least they know talent when they see it, and even if they don't they've got a whole network of spys all over the country telling them about what happened, who is good and who is better. Here's their poll for the week of January 10 (games through January 9).  Of interest should be the rankings of Artesia (#14 nationally), Dominguez (#5 nationally) and Mater Dei (#7 nationally).  Compare these rankings to those at USA Today's "Super 25" poll, and you can see the wide discrepancy that can occur.  Opinions will vary, and it seems there's really no true consensus, and this is just an example of why there will never (well, "never" is a long time, but we feel pretty safe in saying this), never, be a high school basketball "National Champion".  It's a myth. Totally fictional.  But if enough people say it, it must be so,  right?   Well, you can decide that one for yourselves.  As for us, we're going to go out and watch a game or two tonight.  Probably a D-III or maybe even D-IV.  See if we can spot a national champion or two out there. . . . :^).
