Who: 10 Top Teams From LA/Pasadena

Geez, how many places can we be in at the same time?   Remember Jimmy Durante?  "Everybody wants to get into the act," was one of his trademark catchphrases (man, that dates us), but in the case of high school showcase events, especailly the ones taking place over the MLK Holiday weekend, it's true: Everybody does want to get into the act.  But LA is a big region, and there's more than enough hoops action to go around, so in addition to the adidas Double Pump Hoop Challenge at Long Beach City College (Sat. 1/15/00), in addition to the LA City Section Marine League showcase at Harbor City College (Sat. 1/15/00), and the MLK event out in the Inland Empire at UC Riverside (Sat. 1/15/00), and the Nike Dream Classic (Mon. 1/17/00) at the Long Beach State Pyramid, now there's one more event, one that will cover the Pasadena and San Gabriel and Pomona Valley region teams as well. We've been hearing rumors of this one for several months, but someone finally sent us something concrete about the 1st Annual "Rose City Rumble" MLK Holiday Classic.

Pasadena Marshall will host the event, which will be played at the new state-of -the-art sports facility at Pasadena CC, and if you haven't seen the new gym, you ought to check it out because it's beautiful and it's a great venue to watch some terrific hoops action featuring some of the top teams in the region. Here's the lineup of games:

2:00 p.m.   Duarte v. LA High
3:30 p.m.   St. Francis v. Los Altos
5:00 p.m.   Muir v. Rialto
6:30 p.m.   Pasadena v. Rancho Cucamonga
8:00 p.m.   Marshall Fundamental v. Price

Some of the top players at this event will include include DeVerion Mackey, Jason Sanford, Don Williams (Marshall), Leroy Dawson, Desmond Neuman (LA High), Reggie Harmon, Elliot Hucklebee, Josh Duncan, Douglas Thomas (Pasadena), Karim McDougal (Rancho Cucamonga), David Joiner (Rialto HS), Othel Johnson, Chris Alexander, Djbril N'Diaye (Price), and Michael Jenkins (St. Francis).

We're told that ticket prices are $5.00 for adults, and $3.00 for kid under 12. This should be a great set of games and if you're in the area or a fan of these schools, you won't want to miss it.

See you there.
