Scores: Boys Games From
Friday, Feb.11--(Feb. 12, 2000)

As we write this the seeding committees for both the City Section and the Southern Section are hard at work preparing the brackets.  The City Section has two 16 team brackets, for the "City Championship" tournament (formerly the 4-A Championship, featuring the number 1-16 seeded teams) and the "Invitational" Championship (formerly 3-A, featuring 17-32).   The Southern Section will be creating 9 brackets (two in each of the Divisions for AA and A, except for III, in which there's just Division AA this year), and we'd look for each of those brackets to be a 32-team tournament and more with the "at-large" petition teams who will all play "wild-card games in the first round to see where they fit into the brackets with the seeded teams.    Because of the large numbers of teams expected to participate in the tournaments, the seeding committee will pay particular attention to the SCIBCA polls, which ranked teams, including those listed as "other" very deep, down to about number 20 or 25 in the last round of polls.

In any event, here are the results from yesterday are below, but here's a brief summary as well:  In Suburban League play, Artesia went undefeated in league (so what else is new) and in Moore League, so did Long Beach Poly.  In Liberty League, Buckley wrapped up a perfect 14-0 run with a win over Avalon. Chadwick wrapped up the title in the Prep League, Chapparal won the Skyline, and in City Section, Grant lost, but still claimed the Sunset Six, while in West Valley, Cleveland upset Taft for a share of the title.  Crenshaw won the Coliseum league, while in the Marine League, Carson won a shre of the title by beating Banning;  South Gate picked up the title in the Eastern League, and Westchester, despite  having lost to Fairfax twice this season (once at the preseason Reebok Holiday Prep Classic)  also took the title in Western League with their win on Friday night.
