Nike Extravaganza V: Oak Hill
Player Profiles #2--(Feb. 4, 2000)
Oak Hill, the No. 1 ranked team in the country, and perhaps the best ever high school team we've seen (really, we mean it, seriously) features 11 players on its current roster. We're going to feature their profiles direct from the Oak Hill 1999-2000 Warrior Basketball Guide. Five today and six tomorrow. Hey, we didn't write this stuff, but it's still kind of informative. . . Here's No. 2 in the two-part player profile series. If you missed No. 1, here's the link for the rest of the team.
Byron Mitchell (6'-6" Sr. SG/SF)-- Byron is the first native of Canada to be a member of the Oak Hill basketball program. Because of his shooting ability and height, Byron will see considerable time at both shooting guard and small forward. he is an excellent passer and has a knack for coming up with loose balls. Byron has become very poplar with his teammates who quickly gave him the nickname "Canadian Bacon". Excellent student. Byron is the son of Dr. Paul Mitchell and Dr. Janet Seale.

What I like most about Oak Hill is: Having the opportunity to play for one of the best basketball programs in the country.
Chris Neal (6'-0" Sr. G)--Chris returns to Oak Hill for his second year, and was a member of the Red Team [the 'other' varsity team which plays local high schools] last year. Chris brings lots of enthusiasm to the team and will provide depth at the perimeter positions. He is an improving shooter and ballhandler. "All-Out Effort" are the words that best describe Chris' style of play. Excellent student. Chris is the son of Ms. Thurdell McNair.

What I like about Oak Hill is: After I graduate from Oak Hill I will have the opportunity to attend a good college.
Doug Rias (6'-3 1/2" Jr. SG/SF)--Doug is competing for playing time at both wing positions. Improvement in both his ball-handlikng and decision-making are vital in order to earn playing time. Doug has the ability to shoot from the three point line as a sopt up shooter. He is one of the better leapers on the team this year. Doug is the son of Ms. Carol Rias.

What I like most about Oak Hill is: The basketball team and the teachers.
Luke Whitehead (6'-6 1/2" Sr. SF)--Luke is the best small forward to play for the Warriors since Steve Jackson in 1996. Luke can score in a variety of ways. he can post up and he can score off the dribble and the catch. Luke's size and strength should allow him to be a great rebounding wing player. He provides the Warriors with a quality small forward--something that has been lacking for the past three seasons. Luke has committed to play next season at Louisville. He is an outstanding student. Luke is the sone of Mr. & Mrs. Eddie Whitehead.

Chris Williams (6'-3" Sr. G)--Chris has vastly improved since last season where he was one of our first guards off the bench. He has increased his quickness and is physically much stronger. He has also improved his shooting ability and the range of his shot. His knowledge, understanding and experience will be counted on heavily in assisting the Warriors in their quest to match the 1998-99 season. Chris is expected to be a major contributor to the success of this year's team. Chris is the son of Ms. Dawn Pugh.
