Game Previews--(Feb. 22, 2000)

We don't have time for a lot of in-depth previewing since these games are just hours away, but here's some stuff to look for if you make the trip out to any of these contests:

Thousand Oaks @ Mater Dei --(at Oceanview HS)-- Thousand Oaks will be needing all the help it can get now that Jamal Sampson is back in the lineup for No. 1 seed Mater Dei and so is Christian McGuigan.  Steve Scoggins also seems to have regained his form, and the Monarchs come into this game at  28-2 with Mike Strawberry and Cedric Bozeman hot off of a big night on Friday agaisnt Keppel. Mater Dei won't likely score as many as the 111 points they put up on Friday, but Thousand Oaks (17-10) will be challenged to pull this one off even with the big time performances they got Friday from Tim Chevalier (5'-11" Sr. G) who is averaging 14.2 ppg.   Kyle Kegley is the other high scorer and he's averaging 16.8 ppg.  Here are the rosters:

Pacific @ Woodbridge-- Woodbridge comes in at 19-8 fresh off their win on Friday night in the second round against University.  Pacific comes in at 25-2 after beating Moreno Valley in the second round, and they feature big Will Kimble who has signed with Pepperdine as has teammate Mike Hall, and they will be tough even with the homecourt advantage for Woodbridge.  Here are the rosters:

Quartz Hill @ Santa Barbara-- Santa Barbara comes in as the No. 4 seed, and if they have Dommanic Ingerson back in the lineup they could be very tough to beat, especially at home.  The Dons are 25-2 and fresh off a big win over an underrated St. John Bosco team which gave the Dons a real fight before going down.   Quartz Hill (20-7) finished second in the Golden League and beat Arlington on Friday by just three points. Garey @ Simi Valley--Simi Valley comes in as the No. 3 seed, and they are playing better than ever as Brett Michel tries to break the 2,000 point mark (he's 20 points shy) to become the third Pioneer to achieve that record--one other is current starter Branduinn Fullove and the other all-time leading scorer is alum, former Bruin and pro player Don MacLean.   Simi demolished Nogales by 54 points, 108-54 on Friday night, and they will be tough to beat, even by a better Garey team (21-7) which beat Burbank on Friday night. El Dorado @ Marina --El Dorado comes into the game at   24-3 after pulling out a squeaker on Friday night against California, 61-58 behind the great shooting of Quinn Hawking (he's the son of Fullerton coach Bob Hawking).   For Marina (24-3) Dustin Kaatz scored 29 points against Saugus as the Vikings pounded out the win at home by 21 points. Silverado @ Rancho Verde-- Rancho Verde (18-11) upset No. 2 seed Corona Centennial on Friday night behind the great shooting of JS Nash who hit for 35 points for the Mustangs in a great overtime win.  Silverado beat Perris pretty easily, and they come in at 21-5 overall.
