Girls I-AA Quarterfinal Results

Bracket Updates--(Feb 29, 2000)
The quarterfinals were played on Saturday night in Division I-AA, and while we usually don't post the details of the girls' games, we'll make an exception in this instance. Here are the game details together with the updated bracket.

Ayala 69, Westminster 42-Candice Allen scored 31 points to lead the top-seeded Bulldogs 25-4) to the I-AA quarterfinal victory at Westminster. Behind Candice Allen's dominating performance, the Ayala High School girls basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 1AA tournament. Allen scored 31 points and snatched 10 rebounds in the Bulldogs' 69-42 win over Westminster on Saturday night. Allen, who had seven assists as well, was especially deadly from the free-throw line. She hit all 12 of her attempts as the top-seeded Bulldogs (25-3) rolled into the semifinals. Ayala will play Long Beach Wilson on Wednesday night at a site to be determined. The game was moved to Wednesday because the Ayala boys will play Upland in the 1AA semifinals on Tuesday night. Long Beach Wilson (27-5) advanced to the semifinal round with a 59-55 victory over Anaheim Esperanza on Saturday night. Chantea Fleming added 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who ran out to an early 26-11 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The lead grew to 42-19 at the half as Ayala's defense tightened. Guard Ligaya Dozier went down in the game's first three minutes with a knee injury. Lakeima Stevens, who scored just two points, was a force on the boards with 10 rebounds. Kia Riley and Brittany Sieger each added nine points for the winners.
LB Wilson 59, Esperanza 55 (OT)--Dawn McCullouch scored 22 points, including six in overtime, as the Bruins (27-4) won a I-AA quarterfinal at Wilson. eliminating fourth-seeded Esperanza (23-7).
El Toro 59, AB Miller 50--Giuliana Mendiola scored 29 points, 9 rebounds and dished out five assists to lead El Toro to the I-AA quarterfinal victory at A.B. Miller. Visiting El Toro (23-6), which led by 10 after three quarters, never relinquished the lead. Sara Brown had 12 points and Katrina Craig helped out with seven points and 11 rebounds for the Chargers, who will face Lynwood in a semifinal Tuesday. Danielle Saulsberry scored 19 points for Miller (21-8).
Lynwood 46, Camarillo 34--Laconia Hatcher scored 11 points as the Knights (25-4) won the I-AA quarterfinal at Lynwood The Scorpions led No. 2-seeded Lynwood, 8-5, after the first quarter, but the Knights' physical play eventually proved the difference in a 46-34 victory in a Southern Section Division I-AA quarterfinal at Lynwood. Lauren Ferriera scored 14 points for Camarillo (18-10), which was outscored, 28-13, in the second and third quarters. The Scorpions trailed at halftime, 18-12. The Knights made 20 free throws and harassed Camarillo with pressure defense. LaConia Hatcher scored 13 points and Willnet Crockett added 10 for Lynwood (25-3).
