The semifinal games were played on Friday night. Here's what happened:
Division IV-AA
Semifinals
Serra 65, Twentynine Palms 53--Aerick Sanders scored 17 points and had 17 rebounds for the defending IV-AA champion Cavaliers (15-15) in a quarterfinal victory at Yucca Valley. Aerick Sanders scored 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to power Gardena Serra (15-16) to a Division 4AA semifinal victory over fourth-seeded Twentynine Palms (22-6). Serra's pressure defense wore down Twentynine Palms, holding Vili Morton to 17 points, seven below his regular-season average. It was a rematch of last year's 4AA championship game, which was won, 78-60, by Serra. This was Twentynine Palms' sixth consecutive appearance in the semifinals.TWENTYNINE PALMS (53) -- Randall 3, Bernard 18, Palmer 2, Hester 5, Phillips 3, Morton 17, Cummings 3. SERRA (65) -- Sanders 17, Wyatt 11, Cole 14, Bates 5, Jeter 10, Wade 8. Halftime score -- Serra 29-26. Three-point goals -- Bernard 5, Hester, Phillips, Cummings.
St. Bernard 63, Rosamond 60-- Like the Bishop Montgomery game against Morningside, it seems that the only paper which would have covered this game was the Daily Breeze, and we couldn't find a thing at their website, which is infrequently updated,and likewise, we didn't get a copy of the paper since we're outside it's area, so if anyone has the details of this game, send them in or post them up on the board. Serra and St. Bernard will meet in the finals next week.
The bracket has been updated based on these results. Remember, the final game is Saturday, March 4 at the Pond. Game time is 10:45 a.m..
