Boys Division IV-A 1st
Round Game Details--(Feb 20, 2000)
Both Divisions IV-AA and IV-A are pretty small, and the first round games were played on Friday, February 18. Here's what happened, at least as much as we know about:
Division IV-A
Orange Lutheran 74, Brentwood 53--Jason Whieldon scored 28 points and teammate Patrick Salyer had 22 points and 11 rebounds for host Orange Lutheran (22-4), which advanced to play Riverside Notre Dame, a 66-35 winner over Mojave. Chris Latham led Brentwood (10-17) with 17 points.
Riverside Notre Dame 66, Mojave 35--Both Riverside and the high desert were a virtual media black hole, and we got nothing from either of them. The Press-Enterprise didn't have the results of this game, and neither did the LA Times or the Daily News, who both sometimes cover Mojave. If anyone has the details, send them in.
Whittier Christian 50, Providence 36-- Providence (19-6) which finished second in Liberty League and ended the season ranked No. 7 in the Division IV-A polls hung with Whittier Christian during the first half of the game, and in fact led at the half 27-23, but the Pioneers suffered a complete collapse at home, as they hamged just 9 sedon half points, and were4 outscored 20-4 in the third quarter. Shant Bekmezian was held to just 5 points, Pierre Kascinta had 8, Vaca 3, Derek Jones 8, and Gino Pedraja 12. Whittier Christian was led by Zieman with 17, Van Houten 13, Layton 9, Endemado 4, Keloman 1 and Harris 6. Scoring by quarters: Providence: 11 16 4 5 --36; Whittier Christian: 11 12 20 7--50.
