Division V-A bracket udated 2/27/00

As we suspected all along, the finals will come down to Price v. Heritage Christian, the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively. But it almost didn't turn out that way, at least not for Heritage, which had to get past Antelope Valley Christian, last year's D-VA runner-up, and the game came down to a last minute (actually last 7 second) three-point bank shot as Heritage pulled out the win. Price 64, Hillcrest Christian Granada Hills 40--No box, no details, nothing. The LA Times and the Daily News, which infrequently provide coverage of Hillcrest Christian, didn't have any details of this game, so we're really at a loss to provide any insights into what happened. We do know that for the second year in a row, Price will be in the finals next Friday at LMU, and this year they'll play Mark Berokoff's Heritage Christian (aka Eastside Christian) team for the title.

Heritage Christian 68, Antelope Valley Christian 65--Jason Grier's three-pointer with seven seconds remaining helped second-seeded Heritage Christian defeat third-seeded Antelope Valley Christian, 68-65, in a Southern Section Division V-A boys' basketball semifinal Friday at Troy High. Antelope Valley Christian missed a three-pointer with four seconds remaining. Heritage Christian advanced to the final to play Los Angeles Price, a 64-40 winner over Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian. Ryan Meyer scored 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, including all three of his three-pointers, and a total of four three pointers, and Matt Winter had 16 points, 14 in the first half for Heritage Christian (24-4). Matt Williams grabbed 9 rebounds. Peter Beaudin scored 27 points for Antelope Valley Christian (17-10). Antelope Valley Christian: Matthew Nurse 16, Jamal Flanagan 10, Peter Beaudin 27, Cho 12.
