Other Games To Watch Tonight--(Feb. 22, 2000)
We don't have time for much more previewing of games but if we had our choice of games to see tonight, these would be at the top of the list:
Division II-AA
Pasadena @ Moorpark--A game of very athletic big men including Doug Thomas from Pasadena and some excellent guards in from Reggie Harmon and Dino Wilburn matching up against one of the leading scorers in the Southern Section, Todd Tomlinson. Should be fun.
Division II-A
Muir @ Servite-- Will Martin Iti be able to counterbalance the attack from Jonathan Williams and Joseph Frazier? Could be one of the best matchups in this Division tonight.
Division III-AA
The Quarterfinals--just about any game in this division is worth seeing. Harvard-Westlake will take on Morningside, and the game reportedly was switched to Inglewood HS, but we haven't verified that. Notre Dame and Mike Luderer and Cody Pearson take on Corona del Mar, and if both teams win, they'll be in the State Tournament by virtue of this Division sending all of the semifinalists this year. Compton Centennial will get its first true test in the playoffs from last year's champs, San Dimas, and Bishop Montgomery and the Craven twins, Errick and Derrick, as well as DeVaughn Peace, Brian Pruitt and Kenny D'Oyen, take on Monrovia. Any of these games is worth watching.
Division IV-AA
Pasadena Marshall v. Serra (at Bishop Montgomery HS)-- This will be the best game, in our humble opinion in the quarterfinals of this division, as Deverion Mackey and Jason Sanford match up against Aerick Sanders and Doyle Cole. Again, there are four excellent games to see in this division, but this one will feature more high-flying acrobatics and pure athleticism than the others.
Division IV-A
Milken v. Calvary Chapel Santa Ana--This Milken team is the sleeper of the playoffs, and when they shocked St. Monica's it also sent some chills through the rest of the teams in the division. We're not sure where the game will actually be played, but if we could be there, we would. Crossroads v. Silver Valley will also be fun, as will the other two games in the division, but if we could be anywhere else we'd be at the Milken game.
Division V-AA
Pacific Hills @ Kilpatrick-- This could be an interesting game because you never know which Kilpatrick team is going to show up. . . literally, because it's a juvenile detention facility school. If they can knock off No. 1 Pac Hills, it would be quite an upset.
Buckley @ St. Anthony's-- No. 6 Buckley takes on No. 5 St. Anthony's in what should be an excellent game. St. Anthony's has the athletic edge and the homecourt advantage, but the Griffins have surprised a lot of people.
Flintridge Prep @ Bell Jeff-- This is a different FP team than the one that Bell-Jeff saw at the Milken Tournament in December, and they're playing tough. Could be interesting as the No. 4 seed in the tournament takes FP.
Valley Torah @ Chadwick -- an interesting matchup of a team that no one expected to make it this far, Valley Torah has some excellent shooters, while Chadwick has Peter McCaslin and Mike Reich and a good supporting cast. Should be fun.
Campbell Hall @ Apple Valley Christian--The high desert has not been good to Campbell Hall in years past, but this year the No. 2 team figures to have an easier time of it. We'll see.
Division V-A
Price v. Rolling Hills Prep-- we don't expect RHP to upset the No. 1 seed, but then you never know.
We know we left out a bunch of games, but we've gotta run. Have fun tonight.
