Selected League Standings From
Around The Southern Section--(Feb. 1, 2000)

We're not heading down the stretch and some of the league races are really starting to heat up, some are just about over, and for many teams on the edge, it's time to fight for the lives as many still have a mathematical (or very real) shot at making the playoffs as "at-large" teams.    Remember, in the Southern Section, the top league finishers get automatic entry into the playoffs:  In a two team league, it's the top two finishers; in a five or six team league, it's the top three; in a seven or eight team league, it's the top four.  After that, 10 wins overall, regardless of league finish will get a team into the playoffs if they file a timely petition.  As you can see from the standings below, just about everyone will make the playoffs this year, and those who haven't already qualified, are, quite literally, going to be clawing and scratching their way into the playoffs.  Most teams have four or five games remaining, but some have as few as three.   Here are the league standings for those leagues which were published in the LA Times and the Orange County Register today.  Not all of the CIF Southern Section, but just about 1/3 of the teams and leagues.  We'll try to add more during the week, but hey, this isn't exactly easy. . . if you want your league standings included, here's a suggestion:  Coaches and Athletic Directors can either e-mail them to us here at SoCalHoops, or you can fax them to (818) 905-9007 or (213) 388-8432. And likewise, if someone has access to print versions of outlying papers which publish league standings, fax 'em in.
