CIF-SS Boys D-IIAA Finals Preview:
Dominguez v. Brea Olinda--(Mar. 4, 2000)

Who:  No. 1 Dominguez (30-2) v. No. 3 Simi Valley (24-6)

What:  CIF Southern Section Division II-AA Championship

We're pressed for time today, so we're just going to give you the preview contained in the official CIF program materials, written by Thom Simmons, CIF Southern Section sports information officer.  Here's what Tom had to say about the finals (with a couple of additions from us):

With a field of 312 teams now narrowed down to 18, nine titles will be awarded in the 2000 version of th eCIF Southern section Boys Basketball Championships.  There will be those looking to repeat and those hoping to make history for their schools. There are traditional powerhouses, and those beginning traditinos.  When play begings at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim and at Gersten Pavilion at Loyola Marymount University, not only with Southern Section Champions be crowned, but teams will be looking for momentum to carryinto the CIF Sttate Boys Basketball Championships. Here's a closer look at these exciting matchups:

The Divsiion IIAA title gamehas five-time defending champino and No. 1 ranked in the country (USA Today) Dominguez battling unseeded Brea Olkinda.

Dominguez makes a sixth consecutirve appearance in a Division II Championship game.  Coach Russell Otis' teams have won each one of those title appearances and have a total of eight trips to the title game in school history.   Dominguez has claimed a total of seven trophies over that span. The San Gabriel Valley League Champion Dons now have a 30-2 record.  Dominguez' playoff victims include San Bernardino (103-34), Norte Vista (90-54), Ramona (101-43)(, and Redondo Unino (79-621). Top performers are Tyson Chandler, Keith Brooks, and Sherman Gay.

Brea Olinda is seeking it's first title in school history.   The Orange League Champions, coached by Bob Terry Feature Ryan Wilber (18 ppg, 7 rpg), and Ryan Moore (16 ppg).  After playoff victories over Torrance (80-68), Newport Harbor (76-68), No. 2 Seed Chaparral (67-54), and third seeded Inglewood (64-53), the Wildcates now hold a 24-65 record.
