Boys' All-CIF Announcements:
The Official Version--(Mar. 29, 2000)

We just received the official press release from the CIF along with the final composite All-CIF Southern Section Basketball selections.  We've already posted up the selections,  division by division, at least all of the ones which which were published yesterday in the Long Beach Press-Telegram (which was not complete, at least it didn't include the girls' Division V-A selections), so we're reposting them all in one place.  You can also find these selections at the CIF Southern Section's own website. Here's the press release and the complete boys' All-CIF selection list.

ALL-CIF SOUTHERN SECTION BASKETBALL TEAMS ANNOUNCED

CERRITOS --- All-CIF Southern Section Teams for girls and boys basketball were announced today by the Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (SCIBCA).

In boys Division I-AA, Player of the Year honors was garnered by Travon Bryant of Jordan. Bryant was selected as McDonald’s All-Americans. In Division I-A Player of the Year honors were given to junior Cedric Bozeman of Mater Dei. Division II-AA honors went to junior Tyson Chandler of Dominguez after leading the Dons to the USA Today National title. Ocean View’s Marques Crane (Jr.) and Artesia’s Apolinar Fernandez were named Co-Players of the Year in Division II-A after leading their respective teams to the divisional title game. Teammates and brothers Derrick and Errick Craven from Bishop Montgomery share Division III Co-Players of the Year honors after leading the Knights to the state title. In Division IV-AA, Brandon Williams of St. Bernard takes the Player of the Year honors after directing the Vikings drive to the State title contest. Division IV-A honors went to senior Felipe Williams of Crossroads after leading the Roadrunners to the divison championship.

The press release we received didn't say anything about the Division V-AA and V-A Players of the year, so we'll add our two cents:    Timothy Drisdom and Pearson Smith, who led St. Anthony's to the V-AA Southern Section championship were selected co-players of the year, while in Division V-A,   Mychal Lynch and Jermaine Jamison, who led Price to a Division V-A Southern Section title and the State Championship, were selected as co-players of the year. Statistically speaking, at least by our count, there were a total of 173 players: 120 seniors, 49 juniors, 4 sophomores, and no freshmen. For the girls, there were a total of 163 selected (the difference apparently derives from the boys selecting more co-players of the year)   consisting 80 seniors, 43 juniors, 33 sophs, and 7 freshmen.
