San Diego CIF Section All-League
Teams Announced--(Mar. 22, 2000)
No, these aren't the "All-CIF" selections, but
they are all of the boys' All-League selections from those leagues which are members of
the San Diego CIF Section, and evidently, the San Diego Section is a heck of a lot more
organized than the Southern Section, at least when it comes to coordinating the release to
the media of their All-League teams. There also seems to be a bit more uniformity in
the composition of the teams too, with most having as many selections as there are teams
in the league. In contrast, in the Southern Section, the announcements come
trickling out, some one week, some the next, and we've even heard of several leagues
who've said that because some schools in the league won't be holding their sports banquets
until June the league isn't authorized to release the selections
(which doesn't make a lot of sense to us, but then honoring a bunch of senior players three
months after their season of sport ends and after they've graduated makes a whole
lot of sense. . . NOT!) But at least one CIF section seems to have
gotten it right and in San Diego the leagues all coordinated their selections such that
they were published together in the San Diego Union Tribune on Monday.
The way we count the leagues based on the info we got from
the San Diego Section, there's one league missing, the Desert League, but then that may be
defunct this year . . . it only had four schools (Calipatria, Holtville, Imperial and
Vincent Memorial) and we're not sure what happened to it. In any event, there are 12
Leagues below from which All-League selections were made and if you're looking for a
league in particular, we've created a grid (below)--just click on the link for a given
league, or scroll down the page. We're not sure how these selections were made, but
we suspect that the league coaches all nominated their best players and then they all met
and hashed it out the same way most leagues do it here in the Southern Section and City
Section. Then again, what difference does it make. Here are the San Diego
All-League selections for 1999-2000.
