Double Pump Unsigned Senior Shootout
Tomorrow & Sunday--(March 10, 2000)

What: adidas Double Pump Unsigend Senior Shootout
When: March 11 and 12
Where: Cal State Dominguez Hills
Times:  All Day and Evening, both days
Who:  Unsigned seniors, teams and inviduduals
NCAA Certified Event

In addition to the State Southern Regional Finals tomorrow, and the Rockfish Spring League, and apparently a couple of other spring leagues that will be starting up tomorrow, the adidas Double Pump "Unsigned Senior" Shootout will also be getting underway tomorrow morning at Cal State Dominguez Hills.  Of course there will be more players there than just seniors (in fact most of the teams who entered feature a lot of juniors, sophs, and even some freshmen).  The event is close to sold out, but there's still room to add individuals who have not yet signed up, or so we're told by Jan Bryant.

We've been asked to convey a couple of messages by Jan Bryant, who together with her husband Phil Bryant, actually runs the administrative end of these events for David and Dana Pump:

1.  If a player is participating as an invididual, i.e., is not part of an organized travel team which entered as a group, he will need to arrive at the gym at Cal State Dominguez Hills between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning to obtain a team assignment and schedule.  If you entered as an "invididual" don't call trying to get your schedule or your team assignment,  because they just don't have time to give this information out via telephone.  We've been assured though that all players participating as individuals will be playing a morning game anyway, so you won't be showing up early just to wait around all day to play.

2. If you are still interested in playing, but have not yet sent in a registration form (or never got one), you need to contact Double Pump's Chatsworth Office (not the Westwood office) immediately by telephone.   Do not (repeat) do not simply show up tomorrow morning and assume that you can register.  You at least need to call to reserve a spot.  The number to call is 1-800-678-0935.  If you reserve a spot now, your name can be added to the list of players, and you will be placed on a team; you can pay the registration fee at the door.

2.a.  If you are registering late, there is one other major caveat:  If you didn't register before Wednesday, your name and personal information will in the "Coaches' Packets" which have already been printed up.  These are distributed to the coaches, scouts and media upon arrival and they contain full team rosters (including the names of those players assigned to teams as individuals) and personal information (including telephone numbers so coaches can contact a player or his coach).

2.b. Even though a late registrant's name won't be in the coaches' packet, there's a sign-in board placed on the wall of the entrance to the gym which will contain the necessary information so a college coach looking at you will know who he's watching (i.e., jersey number, etc);  coaches will usually add these names to their rosters. . .

3. DO NOT call Double Pump to obtain a schedule of your games.  The schedule will be posted here at SoCalHoops and on the Double Pump website shortly for all teams participating (most of the guys on organized travel teams know the names of their teams already, so these schedules will be meaningful. . . and for the guys who entered as individuals, well, the schedules won't mean a thing until tomorrow morning when they find out their team assignments anyway).  Nevertheless, please don't call with scheduling questions because neither Jan nor Phil have the time to answer those kinds of questions, and since the schedules are set, they won't be changed.

While we can't vouch for the number of college coaches who will be out at Dominguez, we've been to these events in the past and there are usually a good number in attendance.  Keep in mind that this is an "open evaluation" weekend. . . but it's also a crucial weekend for a lot of teams playing their final conference games or in conference tournaments, and many of these teams are hoping to get that last desperate bid to the Big Dance when the NCAA selection committee makes its announcements on Sunday.  Still, we anticipate that a lot of schools who are either completely out of the running for the NCAA or NIT (assuming the coaches haven't been fired) or schools that have a bid already locked up will send at least one body out, particularly D-I schools from the West Coast, and several D-II and even D-III schools.

Again, we'll have the game schedules posted up shortly (yeah, like we don't have anything else to do. . . ).  Hang in there, they're coming. . .

See you there.
