Mats' Madness--(Mar. 27, 2000)

What: 3rd Annual Mats' Madness (formerly adidas Hoop Summit)
When: May 27-29, 2000 (Memorial Day Weekend)
Where: Fresno, CA
Gyms: TBA (Washington Union, Edison, McLane, Fresno, Central, Sunnyside and Fresno City College)
Tournament Format: Pool Play (3 games in pool), three single elimination brackets (Platinum, Gold, Silver)

Schedule of Games:

Saturday: 10:30 am-10:30 p.m. (Pool play)
Sunday: 9:00 a.m. -1:30 p.m. (Pool play)
                  3:00 p.m. -4:00 p.m. (Slam Dunk contest)
                  4:30 p.m. -10:30 p.m. (First Round tournament)
Monday   9:00 a.m. -? Tournament continues
                  4:30 p.m. Championship game

This is a 64 team tournament, and while we don't know exactly who will be coming, but if last year is any indication, this thing will be jammed with talent. Last year Rockfish brought four teams, and this year they're expected to bring as many as six. Oakland Slam N Jam, the Soldiers, Bay Area Ballers, San Diego Alley Cats, EBO, Double Pump and many others will be there. We'll be featuring more on this tournament in the next month, but for now, if you are interested in entering a team, here are the details:

Cost: $350 due by May 10, 2000. Mats' told us to say "No exceptions". The money has to be in by May 10 or you won't get a spot. The tournament is open to travel teams and to high school teams, and it's also possible that there will be a girls' bracket and a junior high school bracket if there's enough interest.
