National Consensus Boys' Poll:
Dominguez Is The No. 1 Pick--(Mar. 21,  2000)

Eddie Oliver has been around basketball a long time, and each week he's been compiling a "consensus" poll from among the top national polls, a sort of weighted average of all the top picks from around the nation.    We're not surprised to see that everyone. . . and we mean everyone, thinks that Dominguez is the No. 1 team in the country.

But we're a little more than surprised to see a couple of teams missing entirely from the top 50 list, including Bishop Montgomery, which doesn't even show up in the "regional" rankings. . . oh well, we don't need any poll to tell us how good some of the other teams in SoCal are who didn't attract the attention of some of these "national" polls. . . then again, it's all a matter of opinion, and we'll be releasing our own "Top Teams" in SoCal list shortly. . . as soon as we get a chance to come up for air.  In the meantime, here's Eddie Oliver's National Consensus Poll.

WHAT ARE THE CONSENSUS RATINGS AND HOW ARE THE TEAMS SELECTED?

The consensus top teams is a report generated from the weekly high school girls and boys polls from Student Sports-Fox Sports (Doug Huff, Mark Tennis and Clay Kallam), USAToday (Dave Krider) and HOOPSUSA (Eddie Oliver), the boys rankings from the National Prep Poll (Jamie DeMoney and Jeremy Plowman) and the girls poll from SchoolSports (Jon Riedel) who also does a boys ranking). These reports appear weekly in newspapers around the country, on the internet and in other magazines and publications around the country. It is also worthy of mention that other web sites such Hoops TV, Basketball Phenoms and several others also have weekly high school national ratings. In addition, the oldest basketball poll in the country, the National Sports News Service in Arizona, has a top 20 boys poll after the conclusion of the season. All of the individuals mentioned work very hard in gathering and preparing information and are the most informed indidividuals in the country in regard to the national ratings. They do a great job in behalf of high school basketball and the primary intent of the Consensus Ratings to give all of the polls and the teams they rate, the credit, promotion and positive publicity that they all deserve. HOOPSUSA is grateful for the efforts made by the pollsters, and takes no credit for the information that they have generated and supplied. HOOPSUSA follows their reports closely and along with the personal information information we gather from viewing games and insite from other basketball advisers from around the country, gives a consensus report weekly during the year and after the season is completed. In the boys poll, four year Prep/Boarding Schools and Prep Schools with five year players, who recruit and/or accept large numbers of players from around the country and the world, are separated into a different category by Consensus Rankings. The rankings those teams receive is as high or higher than the one they would if they were ranked with other schools in a different category. We respect and suggest differing opinions regarding this policy. The number of total points for each team in the overall Consensus Ratings was determined by the rating they received in all the polls shown, giving 25 points for a top rating, down to 1 point for a number 25 rating. When teams tied with the same number of points, the highest rating is given to the team with the higest ranking(s) in any of the polls shown . When teams tied with the same number of points and had identical highest ratings, the best rating is given to the team with the highest winning percentage, Some teams that we feel are deserving, may be added to complete the total number of teams. Additional teams, not shown among the top 50 (or number shown), are listed alphabetically with other teams ranked in the Region Polls. We welcome suggestions and opinions. Fans and coaches are encouraged to contact us if they feel that other teams, not mentioned in this weeks Consensus Rating, deserve recognition. We would also like to be notified of any errors in regard to records and information that may have been shown incorrectly.
