adidas Double Pump Spring Tourney:
Bruins Roster--(Apr. 13,  2000)

Since we can't possibly hope to cover every player who participated this past weekend at the adidas Double pump Spring Tournament at Cal State Dominguez Hills, we decided to do the next best thing:  Provide you with all of the rosters, and some selected player highlights, and, where possible, a team recap.

The Bruins is a new team which we suspect was put together especially for the Pump Spring Tournament.  Will it be around for other torunaments?   Who knows, but it featured a pretty eclectic group of players, some we've seen before and some we really haven't.  The team was coached by Carlas MacCauley, and featured the following players on the roster:

Casey Clark   6'-2" Jr. G Fountain Valley
Geoffrey Clayton 6'-4" So. PG Magnolia
Tony Bryant 6'-3" Jr. PG/SG Villa Park
David Huff 6'-6" Sr. F Verbum Dei
Robert Watkins 6'-1" Sr. SG Verbum Dei
Phillip Tyson 6'-3" Jr. G Katella
Ke'len Armstrong 6'-3" So. G/F Dominguez
Tyron Richards 6'-3" Jr. G/F Westchester
Joel Bruck 6'-3" Jr. F Pacifica
Marcus Jones 6'-7" Jr. F/C Locke

We actually only got to see bits and pieces of some of the Bruins' games.  The team lost it's first game on Friday at the tournament, pretty soundly (actually about as soundly as any team was beaten on Friday) losing to Frinds of Hoop Wisconsin Whie 82-29.  That put them in a second round game in the losers' bracket on Saturday against the Bay area ballers, and once again, the Bruins failed to break 30 points in offensive scoring, losing 48-25.  Finally, they played the Alleycasts White team, and again lost 69-51.   But scoring and winning alone isn't everything (yeah, tell that to the guys on the team. . . ) and some of the players on this team actually had decent outings.  Geoffrey Clayton, an All-CIF selection this past season, played well, and he's not only got a good handle but nice court vision and size to go along with it. Unfortunately, there weren't a lot of people catching and converting his passes.  Tony Bryant continues to confuse and confound us:  He's got a good, strong body and is fairly athletic, with good speed ,  but he needs to think about some of the decisions he makes and improve his shot selection.  We have heard rumors that he may be transferring out of Villa Park, but have not heard where he might enroll next season.  If he can improve his game and decision-making, he has a chance to be a nice division I player.

We're not certain whether this team will be together again for any other tournaments, but if they are we'll make a point of looking at some of the other guys on the roster.
