Two Coaching Changes
In
The SF Valley--(Apr. 13, 2000)
Several coaching changes at schools in the Valley have been announced recently, and this morning the LA Times Valley Edition reported on two more:
Patterson Gets A Different Viewpoint; Abrams Might Return
We spoke last night with Howard Abrams, one of two co-coaches at Montclair Prep (who himself recently resigned) and Howard told us that Greg Patterson, his co-coach of the Mounties for the last four seasons, has accepted the head coaching job at Viewpoint in Calabasas. This morning, the LA Times confirmed that Greg has been hired by Viewpoint, a division V-AA school which competes in the Liberty League against Buckley, Providence, Windward, Avalon, Holy Martyrs, Yeshiva, and Oakwood.
Abrams also told us that he may yet return to coach the Mounties in the fall. Stay tuned.
Harvard-Westlake's Brian Taylor Resigns
Brian Taylor, a former NBA and ABA rookie of the year in 1972-73, and a Princeton grad who has coached Harvard-Westlake for the past four years, and who was originally hired by Harvard-Westlake as the middle-school director of admissions, has resigned as coach. According to the LA Times Taylor will reportedly continue on with his other duties at the school, including teaching. Taylor led the Wolverines to the state Division III girls' basketball final in 1999, and he was named LA Times' coach of the year. During his tenure the team had a 100-28 record and won three Mission League titles; last season, the team finished 22-9. Taylor also has two children attending the school, a daughter Terbrie who is a volleyball player and a son, Bryce, who will be a freshman at the high school this fall.
There was no word about who will replace Taylor as girls' head coach.
