Our Bad. . . Heath Bailey Signed At
Portland State In The Fall--(Apr. 17, 2000)
This is why we have to use our own search engine function more often. . . . This afternoon, we wrote about Antone Jarrell's signing with UTEP and also noted that just about everyone from last year's Pump N Run Gold team had signed with a D-I NCAA 4-year school. But one guy we erred on was Heath Bailey (6'-11" Sr. C). We erred because we said that Heath was still unsigned, when in fact, he signed early last fall with Portland State, a D-I program that competes in the Big Sky conference. Thanks to our friends at Oregon Preps (see, we knew those Rivals guys would let us know if we were wrong :-0) for letting us know. . .
In any event, here's the official press release which was issued last November by Portland State back when Heath signed during the early signing period:
VIKINGS SIGN HEATH BAILEY TO BASKETBALL LETTER OF INTENT
Portland State Head Basketball Coach Joel Sobotka has announced the signing of Heath Bailey to a basketball letter of intent for the 2000-01 academic year.Bailey, from Beaverton High School, is a 6-11 senior center. He has played at Beaverton the past three seasons, and was a third team All-Metro selection last season. Bailey averaged 12 points and nine rebounds per game during the 1998-99
season. Were very excited to get Heath, Sobotka said. Athletically and skillwise he will be able to help us next season. His size is needed in our program and we will work with him to build strength for the college game. We are also glad to continue to bring local players into our program.
Bailey, who also had interest from Texas-El Paso, Santa Clara and UC-Santa Barbara, will join a Viking team that was 17-11 last season. PSU opens its 1999-2000 campaign tomorrow, hosting Simon Fraser at the Peter W. Stott Center. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
Our apologies to Heath and to Portland State for missing this one the first time around.
