UC Irvine Signs Mike
Hood To LOI--(Apr. 18, 2000)
Since we're so much on the subject of the College of Southern Idaho the past few days, it's certainly worth noting that yet another one of CSI's players have signed a National Letter of Intent with yet another D-I school, and this one happened right in our own backyard, down in Irvine. Mike Hood (6'-3" So. G) from Beaverton, Oregon, signed his LOI last week and will play for the Anteaters next season. UC Irvine made the official announcment on April 14, which read as follows:
Mike Hood, a 6-3 guard from College of Southern Idaho, has signed a national letter of intent with the UC Irvine mens basketball program, announced by Anteater head coach Pat Douglass.
Hood averaged 11.3 points, 4.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds this season for Southern Idaho, which finished 29-7 overall and advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament before losing to eventual national champion Southeastern Iowa in the quarterfinals.
Hood averaged a team-high 23 minutes per game for the Golden Eagles and shot 53 percent from the field, including 48 percent from three-point range on 57 of 120. He also recorded 62 steals on the season for Southern Idaho, which won the NJCAA Region 18 championship.
Hood is from Beaverton, Ore., where he was an all-state and all-metro player as a senior on the state-championship Beaverton High School team.
If Zamiro Bennem redshirts this next season, as many expect he will, Irvine will certainly be able to use Mike's shooting, and this is certainly a big signing for the Anteaters, who are still on the recruiting trail looking for a couple more to sign during the late spring period.
