Martin Iti and Kyle Hogan Transfer
To Villa Park--(Apr. 27, 2000)
Both the LA Times website (and presumably the hard-copy of the paper as well. . . we're outside their circulation area, and thus are relying on their web report) and the Orange County Register reported yesterday that Martin Iti (6'-11" So. C) and Kyle Hogan (6'-0" Fr. PG/SG) have both transferred from Servite to Villa Park. We spoke with Kevin Reynolds yesterday who acknowledged that the two have transferred into the school, thus giving Villa Park one of the youngest and tallest front lines in the Southern Section. Villa Park already boasts Kyle Egkan (6'-8" Jr. PF), Sean Phaler (6'-10" Fr. SF) and Brice Prather (6'-9" So. PF/SF). The addition of Iti gives them a true center, and one of the most talented big men in the sophomore class. Iti is originally from Colorado, but then moved to Florida, where he attended Cardinal Gibbons HS in Ft. Lauderdale. In the fall of 1999, he showed up in SoCal, playing for Bob Gottlieb's BWBA team at the Pump Fall Premiere tournament. Shortly thereafter, Iti and his uncle moved to Orange County and quickly developed a relationship with the Hogan family. Kyle is the younger brother of Roger Hogan (6'-0" Sr. PG) who is currently being recruited by some low D-I, D-II, and D-III schools, and who is also reportedly considering a year in prep school.
Iti, a native of Colorado, briefly attended two Denver area schools in the fall of 1999 and played in 18 games at Cardinal Gibbons High in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. A knee injury cut short his season in Florida, and he came to California to play for Bob Gottlieb's Branch West Academy traveling team and to live with an uncle at Hogan's home in Anaheim Hills. Iti continued to play with BWBA this spring, but recently there has been speculation that he will instead play for one of the Double Pump "Pump N Run" teams.
