NCAA Certified Event

The Double Pump Spring Basketball Tournament (which for some reason doesn't seem to be called the "Easter Tournament" this year) will be held this weekend at Cal State Dominguez Hills, and it will feature most of the top players in every class from all over SoCal and from other parts of the country, including some of the top players from Washington, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Michigan, Arizona, and other states.   We'll list the rest of the rosters during the weekend, but for now, we're just posting selected names, so don't feel slighted if you don't see a name you'd expect to see.  This is really a very impressive list of teams and players:

We got the Pump N Run/Double Pump team rosters early, so we'll do those first:

"Pump N Run"--This team is loaded. . . . Errick Craven (6'-2" Jr. G) and Derrick Craven (6'-2" Jr. G), Salim Stoudamire (6'-2" Jr. G) from Lake Oswego, Oregon. . . Jamal Williams (6'-6" Jr. PF) from Corona Centennial who played with EBO last year. . . Kevin Fellows (6'-10" Jr. C) from Meridian, Idaho. . . Chris Hernandez (6'-2" Jr. PG) from State Division I runner-up and Southern Section Champs Clovis West. . . Chris Jackson (6'-11" Jr. C) from Los Alamos, New Mexico. . . Dennis Lattimore (6'-8" Jr. F) from Halstead, Kansas. . . Rick Rickert (6'-10" Jr. F) from Duluth, Minnesota. . . sheesh.

"Double Pump All-Stars"--Another excellent team. . .  Dustin Villepigue (6'-9" Jr. PF) from Simi Valley. . . Scott Borchart (6'-8" Jr. C) from Chaminade. . . Torin Beeler (6'-4" Jr. SG) from Ocean View. . . Jason Carter (6'-9" Jr. F) from Nevada State Champs Bishop Gorman. . . David Gale (6'-0" So. PG) from Buckley. .  Josh Carrier (6'-6" Jr. F/G) from Bowling Green, Kentucky. . . Bakari Altheimer (6'-0" Jr. PG) from St. Elizabeth, in Oakland. . . Jonathan Harper (6'-5" Jr. SG/SF) from LB Poly. . . Quinn Hawking (6'-4" Jr. SG) from El Dorado. . . Andrew Moore (6'-0" Jr. SG) from Crespi. . . and Ernest Turner (6'-2" Jr. SG) from Sterling HS in New Jersey.

"Double Pump Arizona"-- The boys from Arizona plus one from NorCal. . . Channing Frye (6'-10" Jr. F/C), the Fontnet brothers, James (6'-1" Jr. SG) and Jason (5'-10" Jr. PG) from St. Mary's. . . Paul Komandina (6'-4" Jr. SG), Nick Lewis (6'-8" Jr. F) and Ryan Tricco (6'-4" Jr. SG) from Brophy Prep. . . Jon Wilkins (6'-5" Jr. G/F) from Chandler Hamilton. . . and Mike Stephens (6'-10" Jr. C) from Napa High School in Napa.

The rest of the teams, in alphabetical order are:

805 Basketball---George Albanez' team which will feature quite a few players from the Ventura, Santa Barbara and Bakersfield areas, including notably Dommanic Ingerson, Adam Allegro, and others.

AAB-- This is a new team, coached by Romeo LeMay, which will feature a lot of unsigned seniors including Ronald Ruffin (6'-5" Sr. G/F) from Chatsworth, Leroy Dawson (6'-1" Sr. PG) from LA High, Marcus Jones (6'-7" Sr. F) from Locke and others.

Alleycats Red--One of Anthony Williams' two Alleycat teams, this one will feature, among others, several of the Horizon Christian players including Ronald Coleman (6'-7" Jr. F/C),  Jarrha Bolden (6'-2" Jr. G), Robert Ortiz (6'-0" Jr. PG) DJ Brown (6'-6" Jr. F) and Jason Holmes (6'-8" Jr. F).  They'll also have Ben Wohlfeil from El Cajon Christian and Rashawn Allen from La Jolla Country Day. . . But unless what we've seen is a typo, they're supposed to have some kid who is a 7'-4" (That's right Seven-foot four inch), 250 lb. stud.  We won't reveal his name, but we can't wait to see these guys.

Alleycats White---The second of AW's teams, this one will have Keith Sconiers (6'-7" Sr. F) from Washington Union up in Fresno, and quite a few guys from San Diego Lincoln, including Shaun Davis (5'-7" Fr. PG), Dominic McGuire (6'-3" Fr. PG/SG) and Nate Carter (6'-4" So. G/F).  Nope, no 7'-4" guys here, but they still look good.

Arizona Heat-- This is Elliot Glabman's team and he's supposed to have Mike Phillips (6'-8" Jr. F/C) from Corona, and Jordan Legge (6'-9" Jr. C) from Dobson among the big men, as well as Jon Otis (6'-1" Jr. PG) from Corona and Lucas Falconer (6'-1' Jr. PG) from Valley Christian.  Always tough and these guys are athletic and execute very well.

Arizona Jam/Slam--The first list we got said "Arizona Jam" but then the tentative roster says "Arizona Slam" but whatever it is, it's Jeff Meadows' team, and he's supposed to have Josh Griffin (6'-8" Jr. C) from Westview, Brian Freeny (6'-8" So. F) from Mesquite (who Jeff swears is the best sophomore anywhere) Antonio Griffin (6'-6" Jr. G/F) from McClintock, and several other really hot players.

Aztecs-- This is a team coached by Jon Cyrus, and it is, in reality the Esperanza High school team playing in different clothing.  We're not really sure who will be on the bench, but we do know that the team is set to have most of the high school roster including Mark Lovein (what a great 60's name), Steven Bambauer, Mark Davidson, and JD White.

Bay Area Ballers-- Nelson Washington again brings a great bunch of athletes, and interestingly he's got Patrick Dennehy (6'-10" Sr. F/C) from St. Francis listed on the roster, so the rumors we hear about him perhaps attending prep school next season might have a grain of truth.  He's also got Matt Short (7'-0" Jr. C) from Yreka, and we just love the irony of his name. . . . There are a lot of other familiar and some not so familiar names on Nelson's roster, so we're looking forward to checking these guys out.

Beach Cities--  And we wondered what the connection was between Loyola HS and Redondo Union. . . Obviously it's more than just Ryan Mollins. . . This team will have three guys from Loyola and five from Redondo, including Paul Meynan, who is now listed at 7'-0" so maybe he's grown about two inches this season. . . . on the other hand, 6'-10" is still pretty tall. . . The team is coached by Steve Brown.

Bruins--This is a team that was recently formed and it will have some guys from Verbum Dei (Robert Watkins, Phillip Tyson) Tony Bryant from Villa Park, and some players from Fountain Valley, Dominguez, Westchester and Locke. . . Interesting. . .

BWBA Orange--This is Bob Gottlieb's "all-import" team, and it features guys from everywhere except California, or if they are from SoCal, they're either in prep school or just unsigned.  Among the players will be David Castleton, Zach Fortune (6'-2" G) from Bellvue West, Zach Spivey (6'-10" Sr. C) from Coronado, Ben Jacobsen (6'-7"  Sr. F) from Omaha Central, who committed earlier this year but who has apparently opened up his recruiting again, and others. . . favorite name on this team is "Dada Tola", a 6'-6" guy from Omaha, Nebraska.

BWBA Orange County--This is the BWBA team coached by Roger Hogan, which will feature a lot of Villa Park players, including Corey Miller (6'-0" Fr. PG), Sean Phaler (6'-7" Fr. F), and Kyle Egkan (6'-7" Jr. F).. . . the team will also have Bobby Cole (6'-5" So. PG) from Calvary Temple.

BWBA White-- This is the BWBA team coached by Bob Gottlieb, and it will feature the usual suspects (i.e., the same guys from the Spring Shootouts), Harrison Schaen (6'-8" Fr. F) from Mater Dei, Martin Iti (6'-11" So. F) from Servite, Roger Hogan (5'-11" Sr. PG) from Foothill, Matt McGinnis (6'-3" Jr. SG) from Villa Park, and quite a few other excellent players. . .

Carson BB Club-- This is the team from Carson-Reno, Nevada, and it will be coached by Aubrey McCreary, a great guy and an excellent coach (yes, sometimes there's some real coaching going on at these events). . . The headliner attraction is David Padgett (6'-10" Fr. F/C) from Reno, but there are a few really good athletes, like Karl Aaker (6'-5" Jr. G) from McQueen, among others.

Crew--Mostly players from the Valley, it will be about half seniors, half juniors, with a lot of guys from Cleveland, Hassan Bassiri (6'-0" Sr. PG) from Campbell Hall, and a couple of guys from Chaminade.   Interestingly, several of the seniors are also among the scheduled participants in the "Battle of the Valley" All-Star game which is also scheduled for Friday night at the same time that this team is scheduled to play. . . we're guessing that you won't see Bassiri at Dominguez Friday night, but instead up at Cal State Northridge. . .

Dallas Dirty Dozen-- This is Bill McKinney's team, but we haven't yet seen a roster so it's a complete mystery.

Friends of Hoop Black-- A lot of guys we don't yet know, all of them juniors with the exception of Aaron Brooks (6'-1" Fr. PG) from Franklin.  They do have Terrell Armstrong (6'-8" Jr. C) from Cleveland, Adam Hudson (6'-7" Jr. F) from O'Dea and Aubrey Shelton (6'-7" Jr. F) from Lincoln, among others, and one of those others is Scott Skjei (6'-7" Jr. F) from Mt. Vernon. . . more to come.

Friends of Hoop Orange-- Another of Albert Hall's teams, this one features Corey Belser (6'-6" Jr. F) from Bethel, Michael Fey (6'-11" Jr. C) from Capital, and some other excellent Seattle area guys.

Friends of Hoop White-- This is mostly a soph team, and it will have a lot of the young players we haven't yet had a chance to watch, guys like Cody Boyd (6'-8" So. F) from Ferndale, Jacob Manning (6'-5" Fr. F/G) from Bellarmine Prep, and several others.

H Squad--This is Rick Issacs' team, and it will feature several Venice players (Montell Duhon, Kevin Elleby, Anthony Alexander), Tommy Johnson from Crenshaw, Sidney Melvin from Desert, Chris Davis from Crenshaw, Steve McMarion from Palisades, and Deric Issacs from Bolsa Grande among others.

IEBP Ballers and the IEBP Players--Keith Howard has two squads, and these will be roughly the same as the guys playing over at Rockfish. . . we won't list all the possible players, and if you want the list of IEBP guys, just check out the RSL Schedules and Rosters we just posted.

Inland-- Likewise, as with IEBP, Inland is Elvert "Kool-Aid" Perry's team, and since we haven't seen a specific roster for this tournament it could be just about anyone on his list of usual players.  Consult the RSL roster list to get an idea, but you'll likely see the same guys there as here.

Michigan Mustangs-- Who knows if they're really coming or not. . . just like last year, they showed up and played and we didn't have an advance roster then either.  But they won the tournament last year, and USC got to take a really up close and personal look at Desmond Farmer, which resulted in him getting a scholarship offer. . . so, again, who knows.  We'd love to see Robert Whaley though. . .

Modesto Slam N Jam-- this is Bobby Cole's team, and it will notably feature Nick Tabari (6'-2" Jr. G) from West HS, Sante Gayle (6'-6" Sr. F) from Tokay, Jared Ines (6'-8" Sr. F) from Ceres, and what has to be one of our favorite names of all-time: "Corn Foot Colton"--we swear, that's his name. . . '6-4" Jr. G/F from Turlock.

Monsters of the Midway--Dave Bloomfield's team is supposed to have Adam Drell (6'-7" Sr. F) from Chatsworth, Josiah Johnson (6'-7" Sr. F) from Montclair Prep, David Fisher (6'-3" Jr. G) from Hamilton, and several others, but like the "Crew" team, some of these guys (notably Josiah Johnson and Adam Drell) are also set to play in the "Battle of the Valley" All-Star game on Friday night, so we wouldn't expect to see them at Cal State Dominguez Hills, at least not on Friday night.

Next Level Basketball-- We haven't seen any rosters, but that doesn't mean they aren't coming. . . just that we haven't seen rosters.

No Limits--This is Doug Collins' team, which wil feature just about everyone from Victor Valley, including most of the younger sophs and juniors from the region.  Not a lot of size on the team, but we've seen most of these guys and they're quick and shoot the ball well.

Nor Cal Elite--Bob Brown's squad will feature James Reed (6'-10" Sr. C) from Hamilton, Jason Parker (6'-7" Jr. F) from Gridley and Robin Hood--yes that's his real name too-- (6'-1" Jr. G) from Wheatland HS.  A quick, athletic team that shoots well, we saw most of these guys at the last two shootouts and they are an excellent team, and the guys play very unselfishly.

Oakland Hot Shots--Gary Kelley is listed as the coach, and he's bringing guys like Levar Halsell (6'-9" Fr. C) from St. Elizabeth, Kyle Collins (6'-3" Sr. F) from Skyline, Tim Fanning (5'-7" So. G) from Bishop O'Dowd, and several players from Castlemont and Oakland High Schools.

Oakland Slam N Jam--Damien Carter (5'-9" Jr. PG) from Richmond and Joe See (6'-0" Jr. PG) from Division I State Champions De La Salle will make up the backcourt, along with Charles Brown from DLS, and Will Venable from San Rafael and John Winston from Salesian.  DaMarshay Johnson (6'-10" Jr. F) from Oakland Tech and Tremaine Fuqua (6'-10" Jr. F/C) from Skyline will work the blocks.   Much other talent too. . . .

Payton Baker All Stars--Robert Lowden will bring a talented Seattle team which will have seven guys from Rainier Beach, a couple of Garfield guys, some Everett and Redmond players. . . they'll have some size with Anthony Washington (6'-9" Jr. C) from Garfield and Andy Cisco (6'-9" Jr. F/C) from Redmond, and lots of excellent guard play.

Sacramento Renegades--This team will take on the Double Pump All Stars in the first game, and this is a very talented team. Miguel Flores (6'-10" Jr. C) from Woodland provides the height up front while Aaron Lawrence, (5'-10" Jr. G) Sam Loung (6'-1" Jr. G) and Adam Gilbert (6'-3" So. G) provide some backcourt speed and shooting.  Team will be coached by Lester Diaz.

Total Impact-- Sam Allipio will have a new crew of guys since many of his juniors (Sean Cole, Peter McCaslin and others) have moved over to Rockfish for the Spring League. . . although these guys could possibly make an appearance here too. But for now the team seems pretty well stacked with St. Monica guys like Jamayne "Spud" Potts (6'-0" Jr. PG), Robert Rakestraw (6'-0" Jr. G) Lance Washington (6'-0" Jr. G), Marcus Shelby (6'-6" Jr. F) and Hampton Nunley (6'-2" So. G), as well as Armond Ivory (6'-1" Jr. G) who transferred from Artesia to Lakewood and had a great season there.  The team will also have some other excellent players guys like Lester Clay (6'-4" Jr. G) from Crenshaw.

Utah Select--This is Lyn Moncur's team, and it will have Jared Jensen (6'-8" Jr. C) from Fremont, Kelly Orchard (6'-8" So. C) from Bountiful, and the Watts brothers, Adam (5'-9" So PG) and Jared (5'-11" Jr. G) from Cottonwood.

Utah Titans--this is Terrell Baldwin's team, which will feature guys like Nate Harris (6'-6" Jr. F/C) and several other new names, mostly all juniors who we haven't seen before.  The team appears evenly split between players from Skyview HS and Olympus HS, but there doesn't appear to be the height they had two summers ago with McDonald's All-American Garner Meads. . . .

West Valley-- This is Bob Bramlett's team from up in the Bay Area, and it has guys from as far south as Santa Cruz' Murphy Stewart (6'-8" Jr. F) and Seaside's Jamal Haris (6'-7" Jr. F) as well as Mike Tabb (6'-6" Sr. F/G) from Mt. Tamalpais, the State D-IV Champions.  Josh Rhodes is still listed at 6'-6" but that doesn't mean he still doesn't look like a young Carlos Boozer.

In short, this is going to be a great tournament, with some excellent teams.  We'll post up the schedules for the entire weekend shortly. . . stay tuned, and as always, we'll see you there.
