Salim Stoudamire Shines
At "Super 40"--(Apr. 17, 2000)
Easily the best performances by any shooting guard this weekend came from Salim Stoudamire (6'-3" Jr. SG) from Lake Oswego, Oregon (a suburb of Portland), who attended the adidas-Double Pump sponsored "Super 40" workouts on Saturday and Sunday at Cal State Northridge. Salim was absolutely deadly from anywhere out on the floor and he just amazed the assembled college coaches with his accuracy and consistency. And there was no shortage of coaches in attendance either. Saturday was the more heavily attended session, and there were coaches from just about every major program in the country, including just about every Pac-10 school. The consensus among everyone who attended the event was that Salim is among the best, if not the best, shooting guards on the West Coast and certainly in the top 10 in the junior class nationally.
We had a chance to talk with Salim on Saturday evening, and he gave us an indication of which schools he's interested in: "Arizona and Arizona State, definitely," Salim told us. "I also like Los Angeles a lot and I could see living here, so maybe UCLA." He said he hasn't given any thought yet about what he might want to study, but he said his grades are "fine" and he believes he'll be a full qualifier.
