Andreas Bloch Reportedly Signs
LOI With Villanova--(May 11, 2000)
Tracy Pierson at PacWestHoops is reporting that Andreas Bloch (6'-8" Sr. SF) from Fresno Central HS, signed a national LOI to play at Villanova next season. Tracy says that the letter was signed "yesterday" but there is still no confirmation of the signing from Villanova yet, which means (a) they haven't received the letter yet (unlikely, since they undoubtedly have a fax, or (b) they just haven't gotten around to issuing the press release.
According to Tracy and others who reported the signing of Bloch, he chose Villanova in large part because he had been recruited by former Pepperdine assistant Chris Walker, who just joined the Villanova staff last week. Walker was hired by Villanova coach Steve Lappas, as an assistant, returning Walker to his alma mater. A 1992 Villanova graduate, Walker ranks seventh on the school's all-time steals list (185) and eleventh on the all-time assists chart (404). He returns to Villanova after spending last season as an assistant coach at Pepperdine University and as an assistant for coach Van Breda Kolf at Vanderbilt. Prior to that he served on the staff at Loyola Marymount.
Pepperdine completed it's recruiting class last week with the signing of Glenn McGowan, making a total of five recruits for the Waves this year. Villanova has thus far signed three players for next season, two in addition to Bloch: Reggie Bryant (6'-3" Postgrad SG) from St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, and Derrick Snowden (who signed in the fall), both of whom are from Baltimore.
