Long Beach State Signs
Vance Lawhorn To LOI--(May 2, 2000)

We reported last week that our friends at Recruiting USA had informed us that in addition to the three officially acknowledged signees (Terrence Watkins, Michael Darrett and Lemi Williams) last week, that LBSU head coach Wayne Morgan had received another LOI from another JUCO star, Vance Lawhorn (6'-8" So. PF), who played at Dixie College in St. George, Utah this past season.  Well, the school has finally announced the signing, which means that they've not officially received the signed letter and can, under NCAA rules, comment on the subject.

Lawhorn, who attended Las Vegas Western HS, shot 65% from the field last year, and averaged close to 19 ppg and 8 rpg (those figures come from the Dixie College site and the State JC COA website, and they are slightly higher than those in the press release below).   Lawhorn was recruited by Nevada, Pepperdine, Rutgers and Virgina Tech. 49er Men's Basketball Signs Vance Lawhorn

LONG BEACH, CA (May 1) -- Wayne Morgan, the head men’s basketball coach at Long Beach State, announced today, May 1, that Vance Lawhorn out of Dixie Junior College in St. George, Utah has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Long Beach State. Lawhorn (Forward, 6-8, 215, Junior) is originally from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Lawhorn averaged 18.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game last year and was named first team All-Scenic West Athletic Conference. Lawhorn shot .653 (230-352) from the field and .606 (152-251) from the free throw line, while averaging 34.6 minutes played per game. Dixie was 22-11 last year and advanced to the finals of the Region 18 Tournament before falling to Southern Idaho, 84-76.
